Hi! I'm Lisa Jacobson, LPC. I think of therapy as a professional service offering a safe place to grow, beyond the traditional idea of ‘the patient on the couch.’ My natural style as a therapist is to balance warm support and empathy, with gentle, honest words that will challenge you to learn new tools to help gain agency in your life. I like working with clients to explore deeper aspects of their being in order to find more meaning and purpose. I do not work from a medical model or provide clinical mental health services. I focus on adult development and learning to live with awareness, both of which can have their afflictions.

I enjoy working with clients who are open to growth. I am the mother of 3 young adult daughters. I am active in my profession by having served on the Board of Directors as President in 2018-19 as well as 3 prior terms as Western District Chair, for The Licensed Professional Counselors Association of GA (LPCA-GA). I am Certified as a Clinical Supervisor by LPCA-GA, a Clinical Trauma Professional & as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider.

I work with adolescents and adults. I have experience working with clients that are struggling with anxiety, depression, women’s issues, sexuality issues, marriage issues, grief, existential issues, and trauma. Prior to beginning my own private practice, I worked with mental health agencies, residential treatment centers, and various local schools to provide counseling services to those in need.

Everyone could use someone to talk with that doesn't have (as my grandmother would say) "a dog in the fight". My ideal client would need someone to listen to them and have the desire to work together with me to create the change they wish to see in their life. Their goal would be to create a lasting change. Since lasting change can take time, my ideal client would be willing to put in the work and time this lasting change will require.

We live in a day and time that is often so overwhelming it is difficult to feel present enough to focus on ourselves. Whether it is dealing with loss, unwanted change such as divorce or the ending of a relationship, or wanting to find purpose and meaning in our lives, it is challenging to know how to deal with such life-altering events. By working with me, I believe you will find hope through the understanding and discovery of your own potential through our counseling sessions.

Is sex missing in your marriage? Does it ever feel like the spark, passion, and spontaneity has faded and the honeymoon has ended? Or maybe you've begun feeling like roommates and now sex feels like a chore, or feels boring, predictable, and anything but sexy. New positions, toys, and even porn don't seem to do the trick, leaving you to wonder if you're even good in bed good or if your partner finds you attractive anymore. And if you're fighting about sex, that isn't going to feel very sexy either.

Many people are reluctant to seek help, therefore they will suffer in silence. Life can often be difficult, and overwhelming, and it seems that you will never get through that moment. This may be due to past or present trauma, divorce, anxiety, mental health issues, or other situations in life. You may need someone to guide you through those difficult moments to find the healing and peace you desire. The therapeutic interventions I use will assist you in finding those things. Through a trustworthy client and counselor relationship, we can discover how to find healing to have a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I have worked extensively with adolescents, at risk children, and adults who suffer from anxiety, depression, anger management issues, self-esteem issues, behavioral issues, and substance abuse issues. I also work with children and adults who have suffered trauma and experience symptoms of PTSD, ADHD, and ADD. I sometimes incorporate physical activity into the therapeutic process. This "active therapy" can be especially helpful in working with issues of self esteem, anxiety, depression, and addiction. In addition to "active therapy", I have also found that meditation and mindfulness can be especially helpful for children who have trouble with focus and concentration.

I use a cognitive approach when treating clients who suffer from moderate to severe mental health related issues including depression, PTSD, anxiety/panic disorders, phobias, OCD, marital distress, and others. I assess for past traumatic experiences that continue to interfere with current life. I also specialize in neurodivergence including ADHD (using most recent research) and "high masking" autism aka Asperger's. In my practice, you can expect a research-based approach designed to move you out of distress and into optimal living. I seek goal-alignment with my client so that our time together will be more efficient and successful.

Challenges related to depression, anxiety, ADHD and high-functioning autism can be difficult to say the least, but there are ways to work with these experiences to make it easier for you. I have experience working with clients who have multiple mental health issues and enjoy working with clients who are looking to manage and/or overcome the difficulties of these experiences.
