I came into the counseling field because I wanted to give back. Yes, I have had to deal with substance abuse and mental illness with myself and family. I had challenges getting help because no one would listen to me, they just wanted to tell me it was my childhood that was the problem. Well, it was not, it was a lifetime of challenge, bad choices and not knowing how to change, cope, deal with life.
