What's important to know about me is that I am a highly trained and experienced couples therapist. Most therapists have a course or two before and/or after graduate school. With over 40 years in practice, the last 16 years have been devoted to training and certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. and Individuals. While couples therapy usually refers to romantic partners, EFT is effective in repairing hurts and conflicts between family members and friends as well. EFT is an exceptionally well researched and empirically validated treatment for distressed couples.
The goals of EFT are to help couples identify the emotions that underly their negative patterns of interaction, learn new ways to communicate about these underlying emotions, learn to create a safe haven between them so that they can rely on each other's understanding to solve problems, become Accessible, Responsive, Engaged with each other.
I have training in Attachment-Focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which speeds up the healing process of loss and other disturbing emotions which are the residue of the incomplete integration of painful experience. AF-EMDR also helps to release the grip of anxiety and depression.I
