Are you feeling stuck? Life is getting too much? Transitions can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. The present can give you gifts of encouragement. As a therapist, I try to meet people where they are at in their journey. My ideal client is someone who wants to learn more about themselves, is ready to make positive changes, and are open to new perspectives. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which my sessions are guided by your goals, concerns, and readiness for change. I look forward to meeting you!

If you're struggling, I'm here for you. I believe that part of the meaning of life is to love and be loved, and when we aren't able to experience this fully, we suffer. Life experiences can leave us feeling like we're too much or too little, lost, afraid, stuck. Maybe we feel trapped in the same negative relationship patterns, or unable to trust and get close to others. My goals is to help you become more aware of why you do what you do, so that you have the freedom to make new decisions for your future. I want you to have the freedom to experience the intimacy and love we're designed for.

Hello, I'm Rosemary. I specialize in helping individuals navigate through life's ups and downs, through work stress, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and grief and loss. My career spans roles working at: a shelter, psychiatric hospital, and medical hospital, before turning to therapy full-time. As a therapist and mom, I've come to appreciate that, we all share common desires – to be loved, heard, and understood. I've also learned that we often forget to be as kind to ourselves. Together, we can explore ways to make room for self-care, embrace fun, and nurture the bonds that bring intimacy and joy into our lives.

Hello my name is Arturo Covarrubias and I am a Mexican-American, bilingual, male therapist with 9 years of experience treating survivors of trauma in both English and Spanish.  Trauma has likely been a heavy burden that you have had to carry throughout your life and as much as you have attempted to forget, ignore, or will it out of your experience, it continues to impact your relationships and overall well-being. Together we’ll act on your intuition to speak openly about your trauma and to hold and express deeply held feelings about it. We’ll work to reclaim your new life beyond trauma.

My clients are ready to feel safe, calm, connected and at peace. They want to discover who they really are. They are on their way to healing and need support working though life experiences that may have been difficult. They are at times overwhelmed with emotion, sad or anxious. Are you feeling sad, grieving, or struggling with adjusting, or nervousness? Are you in a relationship but feel distant, resentful, lonely or hurt? Are you struggling to connect or communicate with your partner? Doing the hard work of talking about these feelings can be difficult but will be completely worth it.

One of my favorite quotes about therapy reads, "The true counselor seeks to understand people from the standpoint of appreciation...it is like inviting the traveler in from a snowy and chilly journey to sit for an hour before the fire." This is my approach. I strive to provide a warm, non-judgmental presence with the curiosity and tools to help you free yourself of what you think you "should" be and accept and love who you are. I will support you in learning to cultivate deep and meaningful relationships and find safety in vulnerability and connection.

Taking time to care for our mental health is often not on the top of our priority list. Making sure you are mentally healthy and able to take on life's challenges, allows the space to enjoy what life has to offer. In my practice I work with clients to rebuild a healthy mind and provide tools they can use for the rest of their lives. I look forward to meeting you!

Note: Emails receive a quicker response. Awareness allows for change. This is a phrase I have coined that you will hear from me often. Let's discuss this topic together. When we achieve awareness within ourselves, awareness of our environment, and awareness of our patterns of thought and behaviors - that's when positive changes can start to happen. One of the most important things that therapy can help you to achieve is awareness. As your therapist, I will be an additional resource for you as you endeavor to explore the areas of your life that need your energy and attention.

Making a decision to go to therapy could be anxiety provoking but it could also help you to get unstuck from your current situation. Whether you suffer from depression, anxiety, a past trauma or emotion dysregulation, there are evidenced based practices (EBPs) that help with these conditions. In therapy, unhelpful thoughts and behaviors can be discussed, at your pace, in order to reduce emotional suffering. Therapy could assist you to start engaging in behaviors that are consistent with values that pertain to who and what you care about the most.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Whittier?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
