As a licensed therapist I provide my clients the respect, privacy, and confidentiality that I believe every human being deserves. I focus on creating a safe and nurturing environment, free of judgment and criticism, where you can search within to find your own answers through greater self-awareness and self-directed growth. My goal is to help you gain insight and understanding of your capabilities and choices in life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or if you're ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you.

While we can't change difficult situations in the past, we can aim to better understand and resolve challenges in our lives. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques I will help you uncover long-standing behavior patterns and negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

My style of therapy is accepting, collaborative, and respectful of individual values and choices. Please contact me by phone or email if you're thinking about starting. I offer a free phone consultation.

Valerie Lovenheim's Groups

General Therapy Group

Group therapy brings together several people with similar conditions under the guidance of a trained mental health provider. Joining a group of strangers may sound intimidating at first, but group therapy provides benefits that individual therapy may not. Regularly talking and listening to others also helps you put your own problems in perspective. Many people experience mental health difficulties, but few speak openly about them. You may feel like you are the only one struggling, but you're not. It can be a relief to hear others discuss what they're going through. Come join us and gain group support.

More about this group

Anxiety & Stress Reduction

Using a method called Adaptive Behavioral Therapy, you will learn to reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress and learn better ways to cope. Members will provide encouragement and learn from each other in this supportive environment. Specific coping techniques will be introduced with the use of "My Anxiety Notebook", a hands-on approach to explore your historic adaptations to stress, which will create a platform for insight to current anxiety triggers and patterns of response, allowing you to reduce your anxiety. Please contact me for additional information and to set up a consultation.

Food & Mood

Welcome! Led by nutritionist and dietitian Marie, this group will help you understand the relationship between food and mood. Marie will help you improve your diet, increase energy levels, reduce cravings, and reach a healthy weight. Marie is also available for one-on-one nutrition counseling. As an experienced Cornell trained dietitian, she is fully committed to helping her clients feel their best and overcome diet-related health problems. Contact me for more information about this group or individual sessions with our nutritionist.
