When relationships get stuck in an unproductive pattern it is usually because people are reacting to the hurt rather than responding in ways that can solve problems. As a marriage and family therapist I specialize in helping people find strength based solutions to address the challenges of managing relationships. The systemic approach focuses on the interactions of people (families, groups, communities) more than individual symptoms; however, this approach is beneficial when working with groups, families, couples, and individuals.

I wish life were as easy as the old song, "nothing but Blue Skies from now on". However, some of life's challenges are complex and we can often find ourselves stuck under gray skies. It would be my privilege to partner with you while we figure out how to get you and your loved ones unstuck.

Are you having difficulty finding the confidence in romantic relationships? You’re successful in your academic or career life, but for some reason the world of relationships and dating feels like rocket science. You’re terrified of being rejected and feel intimidated at the idea of initiating contact with a woman. Maybe you’ve been rejected before and the idea of starting over in the dating world seems daunting and gives you anxiety. Or maybe you feel entirely directionless in all facets of your life and you can’t find the motivation or direction to feel the confidence you need to live a life where you feel fulfilled.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and stuck, anxious and worried; if you're working through gender and sexuality and feel alone and confused; if you're curious about or ready to quit drinking/using, overly critical of yourself and others; if you're sick of putting others before you, paralyzed by perfectionism, and are losing yourself while people-pleasing the world - then notice the voice inside saying, "Something has to change.” If you answer "yes" to any of these, reach out below.

If you are looking for an easy-going, validating space to process what you're going through, I am here to help. Some weeks may look like processing the latest episode of "90 day fiance" and others could be processing work conflict or getting to the root cause of anxiety or depression to help you understand and work through issues by empowering you to advocate for your needs and wants, and lean in and enjoy life. You are worth the time it takes to understand your own story. I have experience working with clients from many different backgrounds and look forward to helping you on your path to wellness.

The first step always seems the toughest when it comes to deciding to seek help for one's problems that are impacting their life. Finding the right therapist can feel like a daunting task and boils down to having enjoyable, meaningful, and memorable conversations with someone you can trust and confide your troublesome issues with. Life is a journey that is unpredictable, hard, and sometimes messy. You need to trust you can safely share whatever issues affecting you without being judged, and ultimately get help learning new skills and perspectives on your troubles.

Indelible means that which cannot be undone; permanent." Too often, individuals, couples, and families cycle through services and treatment providers, only to continue suffering and feeling as if no one understands and/or no one can help. This can be traumatic. Often, issues can run deep and last for generations. Indelible Changes was born out of the desire to help individuals, couples, and families break free from the chains that bind them.

When we are in conflict, disconnection, or misunderstanding with a loved one, we all experience distress. Our protective strategies come alive- we shut down, criticize, go numb, or pursue for reconnection. We find ourselves in the same old dance, talking different relational languages we can’t seem to reconcile, and having the same old fight. I help individuals, couples, and families talk about what is happening inside them, identify needs, and understand what is at the core of any recurring patterns. I make space for all the ways life has shaped each of you, how this impacts your interactions, and where the misses are taking place.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
