Do you struggle with feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from family and friends? Do you catch yourself thinking, “I’m not good enough or unloveable,” and constantly putting everyone else's needs above your own? Maybe you don’t even know what your needs are! Have bad things happened to you or your loved ones, and it seems like too much to deal with on your own? You might wonder, “Do other people feel this miserable?” Now more than ever, families, couples, and individuals are experiencing feelings of anxiety and depression about the struggles they are facing in their everyday lives.

Ever feel trapped in a cramped mental apartment with relentless self-doubt as your unwelcome companion? It's like sharing space with a critical, nitpicking roommate. Your mind should be your sanctuary, but negative self-talk clutters it. But know this: you hold the lease, the power is in your hands, and it is high time we evict your inner critic and start creating a supportive environment so you can find comfort in your own mental headspace once again.

Immediate Openings! Life is an extraordinary thing but it can also be full of challenges, especially when situations occur that can seem out of our control. Sometimes life stressors can seem so overwhelming that it can be hard to imagine that light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it can feel like we are just surviving instead of thriving. My goal is to help you reverse that and really begin thriving in the life you deserve. I utilize a strengths-based, client-centered, collaborative, trauma-informed, and holistic approach that considers the person’s mind, body, spirit and worldview.

Welcome to my practice! First and foremost, I should tell you that I value, acknowledge, and respect the important step you are taking by looking for a therapist. Every person has a different way to achieve fulfillment, and we all have in common the challenges that life brings us in the road. Understanding that mental health does not necessarily mean the absence of illness, my goal in psychotherapy is to help you understand how to use your own experiences and psychological resources to be a better version of yourself. My practice is focused on the provision of individual therapy in English and Spanish.

You deserve to live a life without things that hold you back, pull you down, or leave you in the dark. Whether this is an eating disorder that has stopped you from enjoying life or made you see yourself differently than how others see you, anxiety that has caused you to feel you cannot take a chance, or depression that has made you feel as though there is no way to cope, I want to work with you to help you find and understand your true self. Therapy is identifying what needs to change, taking those steps, and working to meet your goals. This journey can be challenging, however, you will find in the end it is very fulfilling.

I believe being deeply understood, in the context of a safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship, is the catalyst for healing and transformation. In our work together, what often are considered symptoms are viewed as important messages about one’s lived experiences and psychological needs. We will work together to understand your distress, and the deeper meaning underlying that distress. My focus in therapy is on understanding the root cause of your suffering, and to deeply listen and understand your experiences, and how they have shaped you.

I am a kink aware and ethical non-monogamy (polyamory/swinging/etc) friendly therapist with a focus of supporting these individuals in my practice.
As of 05/2023 I am accepting new clients. I recognize a very strong connection between body and mind. Primarily, I utilize techniques to help you gain awareness into your inner landscape of physical sensations, how these are connected to your emotions, and combine movement with talk therapy. We work with different somatic based tools to build capacity in managing different stressors and releasing past "stuck" experiences. Using what we learn from our body can often help us in navigating anxiety, depression, stress, difficult emotions, situations, life transitions and trauma stored in the body.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?

Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?

Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
