With more than 25 years in mental health, I bring a level of experience and clinical steadiness that helps clients feel safe, understood, and genuinely supported. My career has spanned nearly every corner of the mental‑health system—psychiatric inpatient care, intensive outpatient programs, addiction rehabilitation, and directing two detox centers in Texas. I’ve also run a Suboxone group in Rhode Island and founded the first mental health practice on the island of Port Aransas, Texas. This breadth of experience allows me to quickly understand complex situations and provide clear, grounded guidance.

There are some who may feel stuck. Maybe they're struggling with overwhelming anxiety or adjusting to a major life change like an empty nest or career shift. They need a safe, supportive space to explore their feelings and gain clarity. Ultimately, they want to regain confidence, find purpose, and live with more balance and joy.

Do you spend your days taking care of others? Who is taking care of you? You may be a healthcare professional in a nursing home, hospital or even physical therapy office. Each patient comes with their own challenges that you tackle successfully, and while you don't hate your job, lately each day leaves you tired. There are probably elements of your personal life that are weighing on you, but there's no time to process anything. Or maybe you find yourself being a caregiver for a loved one, which presents challenges tangled with emotions and relationship history and perhaps grieving the life you imagined.

I truly enjoy working with people to help them build a strong sense of self, to encourage their confidence in relationships, and to help foster a sense of calm and security in their everyday life. People seek therapy for many reasons: adjustment to a new city or life situation, feeling overwhelmed or stuck, or problems with relationships. Some struggle with emotional turmoil and anguish from experiences survived in childhood or as an adult. Whatever your unique personal circumstance, I believe it is my duty to serve each client with respect and care. I provide clients with evidence-based treatment, tailored to the individual person.

I’ve worked with children and adults of all ages, individuals and groups, and clients struggling with mental health diagnoses, substance use, relationship issues, or any kind of daily life stressors. I personally have a background in Women, Gender, & Sexuality studies (with a focus in Sexuality) and in intensive addiction counseling, but I love working with clients with all sorts of concerns! Coming to therapy with a goal or strong drive you'd like to accomplish gives me a lot to work with in terms of treatment planning, but if all you know is that you need to talk to somebody that's still a good place to start.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
