I work with adolescents and adults navigating transitions, relational difficulties, ADHD, Depression and Anxiety.
Many people come to therapy feeling lost, stuck, or adrift—after a major life change, during recovery, or sometimes after years of life feeling the same. Waking up to a life you don’t recognize, or asking yourself “How did I get here?” can feel bewildering, overwhelming, and paralyzing. You don’t have to face these questions alone.

We're all trying to get through life....and we weren't meant to navigate it alone. Sometimes we just need an ear, a shoulder, or someone to hold up the proverbial roadmap and walk alongside us to keep it moving forward. Life carries us through many seasons, often resulting in confusion, chaos, anxiety, depression, illness, grief, and traumatic events. Sometimes they happen as children and young adults, resulting in the stuff we carry into adulthood, having an enormous impact on the quality of our lives....our relationship with self and with others. The good news is...there's help! You don't have to suffer alone and in silence.

Even strong, smart, successful people know when to utilize the help of experts. Maybe you’re not in crisis, just a couple in a “good enough” relationship, but some of the time things get painfully off track. Or an individual whose life seems to be going pretty well on the outside – but privately, you’re hurting. Sometimes, your ways of “getting by” turn into habits that need to be amended. It’s not always clear how to go about initiating change and it helps to have an objective perspective. Counseling is a great way to improve your life. Together we will explore, identify, and rebuild habits and patterns to provide lasting change.

I have worked as a counselor for over 30 years providing individual, marital and family counseling.
I am a "Problem Solver". My goal is to help work though whatever the problem is so life can move forward. Too many people become "stuck". We need to learn to solve what we can and move past what we cannot. Life is too short to spend it in a state of unhappiness. I do not make demands or pressure. I listen. But I will give guidance and opinions. Many individuals become anxious or depressed as life or relationships can drain you empty.

I am a child and adolescent therapist.
My specialization is play therapy with young children, as play can help children express, understand and process their emotions and experiences. I take a child centered approach, but this involves working with parents as well. I try to understand the point of view of the child, as well as their parents, in helping the family sort out the presenting issues.

I have expertise in counseling inmates, teens/young adults, small children, couples, and parents.
Many are called to the profession of counseling, but very few are chosen. I have been chosen to guide others in finding direction, insight, and purpose. I am confident, compassionate, and unwavering in my desire to help clients see the light in the face of darkness. While my general philosophy is that therapy should be interpersonal, client-centered, and support based, I also believe in asking tough questions that challenge my client's existing mental conceptions and problem solving methodologies. My personal motto is "Challenge the thinking; change the behavior." Your mind is the battlefield of your life. Let me help you win!

Living with chronic illness can often leave you feeling like you’re simply “getting through life”. Managing symptoms, appointments, responsibilities, and uncertainty while feeling increasingly disconnected from yourself, others, and the life you thought you would be living. You may miss who you were before illness became part of the picture or wonder how to move forward when your body doesn’t always cooperate. But what if rediscovering yourself and your joy could exist alongside your diagnosis?

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
