*Not taking new patients at this time**Life can be overwhelming and emotional when children and adolescents are struggling with mental health concerns and challenges. Trauma leaves feelings of anxiety, depression, worthlessness that can make everyday interactions a struggle. Individuals need to feel safe, secure, feel valued and have a sense of belonging to fully participate in their lives. Treatment options should focus on their developmental stage, strengths and values. Building self-esteem, confidence and self image is the first step to healing.

I enjoy working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, and low self value during life's struggles. These issues can lead to loss of quality of life, and substance use / addiction issues. Helping others to see their worth and empower them to regain control of their lives in a positive direction is my mission. I also work with the family unit as a whole and children, in particular those with different / additional needs. Aiding the family unit and the individual results in more positive quality of life for all involved. Creating a balance between family, children, trauma , addiction and special needs is my goal.

heather-newcomb.clientsecure.me I am most easily accessible via email, and would recommend that you send an email to reach me. I have 10 years experience working with those struggling with addiction. This is almost always due to past trauma events that initially lead to substance use. Depression and anxiety are often co-occurring disorders that accompany substance use disorders and can lead to further life disruption. My clients want freedom from the mental heath and substance use disorders that are holding them back from their full potential and reaching their dreams.

I am a generalist and can help with anxiety, depression, trauma , women's issues, relationship concerns, and exploration of gender or sexual orientation.
I view the relationship between the client and therapist as the most important aspect of therapy. I value creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space in which clients feel comfortable being open about their experiences. I spend time getting to know my clients, listening to their needs, and meeting them where they are. I utilize an integrative approach to treatment, emphasizing emotion-focused and interpersonal process theories, along with evidence-based techniques.

Our practice is solely dedicated to helping individuals and couples heal and recover from the devastating trauma that problematic sexual behavior and addiction brings into their lives.
It's been said, "The measure of success is not whether you have a tough problem to deal with, but whether it's the same problem you had to deal with last year." -John F. Dulles- Change is a difficult process. Wanting to change on one hand. Knowing we need to change, but also desperately holding on to old thought processes and behaviors on the other hand. We view our role as an agent of change. Our goal is to help clients find the courage to overcome their fears and the knowledge and skills to be able to sustain the changes.

My work is trauma informed, rooted in attachment and relationship, ecotherapy, somatic and transpersonal psychology, and is supported and informed by research and neuroscience.
Through a holistic and integrative approach I support individuals and families to navigate the unique challenges that life has unfolded for them. Whether our work takes place in my office or out in nature, I help my clients identify, cultivate and nourish their strengths and resources. Through our work my clients deepen their connection to themselves, others and the natural world. As these connections grow I support my clients to uncover limiting patterns that inhibit their relationships, creativity and happiness so they can nourish new ways of moving and relating in the world that support authenticity, ease, and joy.

Specialty includes combined Psychotherapy and Neurofeedback for a wide variety of problems. Neurofeedback trains voluntary control over mood states, sleep states, cognitive functioning, chronic pain and many autonomic symptoms. The process of conceptualizing problems from different perspectives and planning changes needed, along with Neurofeedback to change actual brain function, often brings about rapid positive change, and enables reduction or even elimination of psychotropic medications.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
