I have worked with many, who have faced challenges related to family conflict/discord, minority groups who face cultural/racial concerns, and
sexual abuse
(incest/external).
First, I'd like to say that there is strength in reaching out for support! My clients are diverse and have unique backgrounds and challenges. Many of my clients are young to middle-aged adult women, whom I've greatly enjoyed working with. Though many of our challenges may be interconnected, my work with clients mostly focuses on empowerment, self-compassion, and confidence. My clients are AMAZED by how their focus on increasing self-love, positively reverberates in every aspect of their lives. My clients appreciate my organized yet flexible style and are comforted that our work together is a solution-focused, safe collaboration!

Here’s my rap sheet: I’ve been in the psychotherapy field for about 10 years now; I got my start working with sexual
assault
victims.
My friend, let me ask you this: do you ever feel like you have things you need to say but no one to say them to? Do you think your thoughts are irrational and just stuff them down? Are you feeling alone in your struggles? I’ve got good news for you: If you’re reading this, you’re already taking a step toward getting well! Congratulations; I’m proud of you already! Ok, read on! A lot of times a person feels like his or her issues are so big that it’s overwhelming to even get started on the road to wellness. People get defeated before they even make a move. Listen, I know how this goes; I’ve been there too. Let’s talk it out!

It may be military related,
sexual abuse
, domestic violence, childhood trauma, abandonment, motor vehicle accident, sudden loss, traumatic grief, or infidelity.
Are you tired of the words 'coping skills' or 'let it go'? Would you rather talk to your dog (or perhaps a wall) than talk to a therapist? Then you may really like Jana Davis. She's not a traditional therapist. Jana is not interested in 'coping skills'. She's interested in what is holding you back, and taking care of that. The result is you feeling more like yourself, and that's a good place to be. She does this without having the client 'relive' anything. Jana knows those other therapies (EMDR, prolonged exposure, cognitive processing, and many others). She uses something MUCH faster and WITHOUT reliving.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
