I provide a nonjudgmental and compassionate atmosphere, in which you can safely explore and work feelings, thoughts, images, and beliefs that maybe keeping you from moving forward in life. I believe that for therapy to be effective, both you and I must be actively involved in developing treatment goals and assessing progress. Efforts to change self-perception, emotions and behaviors require work both in session and out of session. Therapy is a process in which you, the client gain insight, and tools that will facilitate continued growth and development after the counseling has ended.

The hardest part of our journey begins with the first step. Looking at your current circumstances you may understand that change needs to take place, but just lost at where to begin—I’ve been there. There comes a time in each of our lives where we can reflect. This reflection upon our lives is often never easy. It is like an arduous journey filled with hills and valleys. Sometimes this requires letting go of pent up emotions and ingrained behaviors which may have served a purpose for some time but no longer serve us. My passion is to help individuals through this time teaching them the tools needed to navigate their new paths.

No problem is too big or too small to find a solution. I acknowledge the strength and courage it takes to reach out for help and work collaboratively with you to achieve your goals. I have a strength-based approach to therapy and believe the therapeutic relationship creates a safe place to promote growth, change, and healing. Talking through experiences allows us to grasp how thoughts and behaviors can both help and harm us. Often we resort to old behaviors or thoughts that worked for us at some point but now are causing us difficulty in our present lives.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Life Coach. My approach to therapy is to help clients identify, understand, and ultimately change the areas in their lives that have contributed to emotional and relationship pain. I deeply believe that to have the breakthrough we need in current relationships we must understand our history and how it profoundly colors and impacts us as adults. We all encounter moments in life that can create a ripple effect in the way we view and treat ourselves. These moments may exacerbate symptoms we would normally be able to manage or they may be the catalyst for something we have never experienced. The coping mechanisms we have used to survive in the past do not define us, and with the support of a good team, we can begin to learn new skills to help move us forward. Finding the right person to talk to can be a first step in finding a path to (re)discovering a more regulated and integrated self.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
