Imagine...feeling more connected and better able to communicate with your child . Perhaps the daily stresses have been piling up and your family needs support to re-balance. Maybe you are worried about your child and you need an experienced therapist to help problem solve. I have worked for over 20 years with children under stress due to school issues, divorce, family crisis, separation or deployment. I utilize a combination of play therapy, mindfulness and CBT to promote changes in thinking and behavior. Play therapy can especially benefit traumatized children , as it allows them to process the trauma at their own pace.

My approach as a clinical, sport, and performance psychologist is integrative--I draw on relevant research and a variety of psychotherapeutic perspectives, using, for example, techniques from cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, humanistic, and family and child therapies, as appropriate for the client and situation, to create a plan to address challenges and foster development.
As a clinical, sport, and performance psychologist, my mission is to help you develop toward your potential and lead a fulfilling life. If you are experiencing stress and difficulties in functioning due to a clinical condition such as anxiety or depression, we can work together to assess your condition and help you to better understand it, cope with symptoms, and develop your personal strengths, so you can resolve challenges and thrive. If you are an athlete, coach, performing artist, or another professional in a highly demanding environment, we can work together to develop psychological skills and strategies that will promote your success and excellence.

While we can't change situations that have occurred in our past, I can work with you or your child to better understand situations so that they no longer control you and/or your family.
*** OUR PRACTICE IS ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS ***** Each of us are unique, and so are our struggles. As unique as we are, there are times in all of our lives where we feel challenged, stuck, exhausted, or lost. It can be beneficial to seek help from someone outside our situations to help us find ways to make positive change, and move through these trying times. We use an eclectic and collaborative approach combining both psychotherapy and neurotherapy in the therapeutic process. Our focus is allowing individuals to use their own strengths and weaknesses to develop a pathway for a healthy balanced life.

Whether your child is BIPOC, LGBTQ+, differently abled, gifted, special needs, or a member of another what I call "stand out community," I am here to help them engage in self-discovery, increase their emotional and social awareness, learn to critically think and make wise choices, and replace harmful reactions with thoughtful responses to tough situations.
Hello, I'm Icy! (Yes, that's my REAL name, haha). I'm a former teacher and pediatric psychiatric hospital social worker turn therapist. I'm full of energy and it works in my favor because I'm a "17 and under" magnet and I absolutely adore all things children ! As a clinician at Radical Change Therapy, I partner with parents who are concerned about how their toddler, child , pre-teen, or teen is connecting with family members and their peers, and/or how they’re managing in school and/or social environments. My experience in mental health/trauma, my background in the classroom, and my personality collide to create results for families!

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
