Many women reach a point where life no longer feels balanced, meaningful, or fulfilling. They may not know exactly what they need, but they know something has to change. Anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, loneliness, or emotional exhaustion can make it difficult to enjoy everyday life or move forward with confidence and purpose. I enjoy working with young adult women who are discovering who they are while navigating relationships, life transitions, and the pressures that come with adulthood. I also have a special heart for mothers whose children are grown and who find themselves wondering, “What now?” as they enter a new season of life.

I work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, life transition, and processing trauma. These individuals may struggle to identify where their emotions are coming from or how to explain them to others. They might be finding it difficult to set boundaries or advocate for themselves. Together, we'll approach these thoughts and feelings with curiosity and kindness to better understand them and where they come from.

I began supporting individuals fleeing domestic violence, early on in my career. This shaped my belief in providing care that is compassionate and practical. After earning my counseling degree, I worked in a correctional institution providing individual and group therapy, then continued my work with veterans navigating trauma, substance use, and life instability. These experiences shaped my trauma-informed, collaborative style. I aim to create a safe space where clients feel seen, supported, and able to progress toward healing and growth.

I have worked as a therapist with clients with a wide variety of disorders/problems and from a wide variety of backgrounds for the past 33 years. I would describe my therapy style as mostly cognitive-behavioral. Regardless of style, I believe that it is the quality of the client/therapist relationship that is the impetus for positive change.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over twenty years of experience providing therapy. Many folks I see are struggling with relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, or grief. In addition, I am experienced working with people who have a history of trauma. In my perspective, seeking therapy requires a willingness to address past or current painful experiences, and I admire those who are brave enough to take this step towards personal growth. Oftentimes, my clients find that by sharing and processing difficult times, they are able to grow and make meaningful changes in their thoughts and behaviors.

If you’re here, you may have reached a point where you’ve stopped pretending everything is okay. You’re tired of being told to “just love yourself” when, deep down, something still feels missing. For many people, this shows up as a quiet loop of thoughts: "I’m not good enough. I’m different. This isn’t how life was supposed to be. Is this really it?" Many of the people I work with feel deeply lonely, even when their life looks “fine" from the outside. Loneliness can exist whether you’re single and longing for connection, or in a relationship where closeness has faded and you might feel more like glorified roommates.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
