We all have a story; discovering personal insights, tackling current challenges, and healing past wounds requires courage. People come to therapy for many reasons, whether as individuals, couples, or families. In therapy, we will work together to define your goals and work towards helping you gain a deeper understanding of what you need to live a life that is more aligned with them and your authentic self. With a certificate in trauma counseling, I am deeply connected to issues related to childhood trauma and grief, and I am passionate about helping people create their own paths and define their recovery.

I have found mindfulness, breathwork, and yoga, particularly helpful to reconnect with ourself after experiencing trauma.
Speaking from experience, I know that it can be challenging to ask for help, so, I'm glad that you are here. As a LPC, I create a non-judgmental space for us to work towards achieving your goals. Some of my clients need a soft place to land & support through transitions, others may want to gain a greater insight into themselves and alleviate symptoms of grief, anxiety, or depression. Other folks I work with may be looking to create healthier relationships with those around them or have a desire to better regulate their emotions. Please let me know how I can be of service as I look forward to helping you on your wellness journey.

I know what it’s like to go through hard times and what a difference having a skilled, compassionate therapist can make. For over 15 years, it’s been a privilege for me to do the same for my clients. My passion is helping clients heal from different types of traumas ( PTSD, complex-developmental, intergenerational, attachment, religious, etc). These traumas often lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, impulsive/addictive behaviors, eating disorders, and personality disorders – all which I have experience and success in working with.

Hello I am Laura Cahill! I am a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a love for the art of engagement in the work of therapy. Do you feel like your emotions have taken over and pushed you out of the driver's seat in life? In life, we often experience challenges, unexpected stress and transitions, trauma, hurt, grief and loss. Understandably, we may struggle with powerful emotions that seem to almost overtake us. Part of the human experience is wanting to feel in control of our inner and outer lives. It’s time to step back from the battle-not by retreating, but by re-framing.

I am trained and certified in multiple facets of Trauma-Informed Care, Grief, and in implementing behavioral interventions from a variety of theoretical perspectives with individuals, couples, and families.
Life’s challenges may cause us to react and respond in many different ways. Our current situation may or may not be in our immediate control, but when we look at our life, long-term, it will be the decisions that we make today that set the course of the overall outcome. Experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, confusion, and frustration (to name a few) may be a part of that journey, but you do not have to go down that road alone. It's important to have a safe and confidential space to work through challenges, become more resilient, and come out on the other side with confidence and skills to manage the situations you face.

Are you suffering from the end of a relationship? A job? Do you feel like you are in crisis, or no longer feel like yourself? Maybe you’re realizing that your life as it is in this moment is not working for you. Perhaps you feel alone, lost, or at a loss for what to do. Congratulations on taking the first step to finding relief and taking control. Life is too short to surrender to bad relationships, hold grudges, let trauma control us, or to be anxious or angry all the time. You may feel stuck, but there is hope.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
