Glad you're here! I specialize in helping adults work through anxiety, depression, and OCD that is often intertwined with low self-esteem, people pleasing, and perfectionism. Maybe you're finding yourself in a storm of your emotions and thoughts, or it's the opposite - you've been able to power through life by setting emotions aside and cracks are starting to show. Using a warm and affirming approach, I will guide you through making sense of the storm while looking at the sky view, including your past and the ways you have coped.

I often use Person-Centered Therapy in my practice but will also incorporate, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Soultion-Focused and Motivational Interviewing.
Are you feeling lost, overwhelmed, or like you’re just not enough? Maybe you’re carrying the weight of expectations—your own, other people’s—and it’s exhausting. You try to be everything to everyone, but somewhere along the way, you start wondering… what about me? I get it. As someone who’s had my own struggles, I know what it’s like to feel unseen and unsure of where you fit. Life piles on responsibilities—relationships, family, work, identity—expecting you to keep moving, even when it’s too much. But you don’t have to do this alone. We all need to be seen, heard, and supported. Let’s connect. You're not alone!

I often use skills from acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy.
As a therapist, I hold a compassionate, non-judgmental space for clients 1. to explore their inner lives and 2. to learn how to make their day-to-day lives better, one step at a time. I use a variety of evidenced-based approaches to help you gain clarity about your thoughts and feelings. We will also spend time figuring out what coping skills help you feel and function better. I use psychodynamic and ACT approaches to explore how your past shapes your present, then help you clarify your values and goals, and take committed action toward them.
You're smart and self-aware - that doesn't stop you from overthinking, struggling to set boundaries, or feeling like you're not living up to your potential. Maybe you're navigating a major life transition, questioning relationships or career choices, or trying to figure out what you actually want instead of what you think you should want. You're tired of old patterns playing out in new situations - the people-pleasing, the self-doubt, the feeling that everyone else seems to have it figured out. You want clarity, confidence, and a life that feels authentically yours.

I incorporate techniques from evidenced-based therapies including acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and exposure response prevention.
I believe that everyone comes into therapy with their own innate strength and wisdom, and in my sessions, I strive to help teens, children, families, and individuals with eating disorders tap into these qualities that are already present within. I incorporate empathy and a non-judgemental approach into my sessions to foster a safe, therapeutic relationship. It is through this relationship we can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and, in time, we will examine whether they are helping you live your most fulfilling life.

I draw on EMDR, IFS, CBT, and ACT through my D
Hello, I am Patricia Clark, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and an EMDR-Certified Clinician with over 10 years of experience. I grew up in New York City, where life taught me lessons that no classroom ever could. I learned early what it means to carry things quietly, to keep moving, and to figure it out on my own. I also learned that carrying things quietly has a cost. The complexity of those lived experiences shaped everything about the healer I became. I created D.I.V.A. Counseling so others have a safe space to explore who they truly are.

You may be capable, driven, and dependable—yet internally feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted. Burnout, perfectionism, relationship strain, or past experiences may still shape how you respond to stress. You’re not looking for quick fixes or surface-level coping. You want clarity, emotional steadiness, confidence, and meaningful progress. You’re ready to understand yourself more deeply and take intentional steps toward a grounded, empowered life.

You're white knuckling through the panic attack and trying all the skills to make it go away. After it's over you feel relieved, only to be on edge again in preparation for the next attack. You think of better ways to distract yourself next time or decide what should be avoided to make sure you never feel this anxiety again. Maybe you'll cut out caffeine or try a new meditation about how to feel less anxious. You'll try a different sour candy or do some tapping on yourself to regulate. You're sure never to go too far from home in case a panic attack hits while you're out. Life has shrunk and you're feeling stuck.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
