My curiosity extends far beyond a diagnosis. I’m interested in understanding what happened, what hurts, and what helped you survive. I believe thoughts, emotions, and behaviors often make sense in the context of life experiences.

For those embarking on a healing journey from relational or parental narcissism/neglect/ abuse/addiction and/or are recovering from high-control religion, I see you.
My clients come to me seeking relief from perpetual fight/flight or dissociated/disconnected states. They realize their adverse childhood experiences, or family conflicts (CPTSD) have impacted their nervous system or health so much that they struggle to know who they are or how to cope in the world. They desire tools that free them from overwhelm, anger issues, sleeplessness, low self-esteem, emotional eating, hypervigilance, perfectionism, anxiety & relationship difficulties interfering with daily functioning or their ability to experience joy. They are the scapegoats & the cycle breakers looking to do things differently.

Typically, it's deep soul work...and my goal is always to go at your pace and meet you where you are. I also offer animal-assisted and nature-based outdoor therapy at my partner therapy farm in Purcellville, VA.

As a psychotherapist, I cultivate a safe & supportive atmosphere in which my clients explore thoughts and feelings about the important areas in their lives that may be broken, or not working as well as one hoped and planned. Adults often address major life changes, symptoms of anxiety and depression, relationship issues, as well as struggles with substance misuse and alcoholism.

I help my clients with depression and mood disorders, stress, self-confidence, eating disorders, relationship problems, trauma or child abuse, loss, and life transitions.
Psychotherapy profoundly changes lives, and I believe the relationship or "fit" between the therapist and client is one of the most important factors in a successful psychotherapy. My hope is to create a trusting, compassionate relationship, and a private experience in which you feel understood. I can help you better understand the underlying issues which may be contributing to your struggles. You will begin to feel relieved, feel better about yourself, create better relationships, make clearer decisions, resolve painful past experiences, and feel more in control of your life.

Accepting New Clients. Is your teen struggling? It’s hard to be a teen in todays world. They are managing stress, anxiety, motivation, self esteem, and relationships. Sometimes having an outside perspective can help. Helping teens with strategies to help with these important issues is a passion of mine. I also know how important the relationship is between teens and their families. As a parent of two grown children, I know how important this connection is and how challenging it can be as our children become teens.

It is my pleasure to be able to offer in-person or zoom video counseling for convenience and access to Christian Counseling. I am interested in working with those who have broken hearts, anyone affected by divorce, infidelity, anxiety, perfectionism, codependency, childhood emotional neglect, mother/father wounding, family dysfunction and those seeking spiritual growth. I practice from my intense study of attachment neuroscience. I also practice from a non-denominational Biblical worldview and utilize God’s Word in our sessions. It is my personal view that we look at the roots, not the symptoms to make a difference.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
