I’m an Australian native, now a legal resident, who came to the United States to pursue college athletics. Over time I transitioned from the pursuit of a professional sports career to building a fulfilling life beyond competition. My therapeutic approach is shaped by this journey. It’s designed for driven, goal-oriented individuals who may struggle to balance the beliefs, pressures, and expectations that come from a high-achievement mindset.

When we have been hurt in the past, we carry our wounds into the present. Not only do we carry the painful memories, but also all the accompanying feelings such as shame, anger and powerlessness. Our nervous system is on high alert and our brains prepare our bodies to survive. Our muscles get tense, our chests get tight, our shoulders ache. Trauma doesn’t have to be one terrible event. It can be the daily impact of not feeling safe and secure in our early environments. Often, we think that we have moved on, but our brains and bodies do not forget.

I love to help my clients acknowledge their emotions, understand and reframe intrusive thoughts, set healthy boundaries, and hold space for feelings of grief when they come. I have extensive experience with adults and college-aged clients in improving symptoms ranging from anxiety, depression, social anxiety, life skills, grief and loss, relationship issues, boundary setting, and self-esteem. I want to help each client determine their own counseling goals. I'm a firm believer in autonomy in counseling. You might look like you’re holding it all together—but inside feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected in your relationships. Maybe you’ve tried to fix things on your own, but nothing seems to fully shift. Therapy can help you better understand what’s going on beneath the surface and create real, lasting change. I work with individuals and couples who want more than just coping—they want to feel more connected, confident, and at peace in their lives and relationships. I believe you’re doing the best you can with the tools you have, and that with the right support, meaningful change is absolutely possible.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
