I believe that recovery is possible for everyone and healing occurs best in the context of an authentic, trusting relationship. Many of my clients come to me after other short-term therapy approaches have not worked for them. We work not only to manage distressing symptoms, but also to break enduring patterns related to identity, relationships, emotional expression, and safety that often stem from earlier experiences where we felt unsafe, out of control, or invalidated. In therapy we work to make meaning out of past experiences, break those patterns, learn more about ourselves, and move towards the life we want.

My practice has been shaped by working with clients in the community setting, inpatient and emergency department settings, and outpatient practice setting providing therapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
My philosophy about providing therapy is that we are all here on a journey. Every person has a unique life journey. Life can be difficult and challenging. Sometimes, people get stuck and experience difficulty living life comfortably. It is my goal to walk the challenging part of your journey with you, provide nurture, and enable coping and healing to help you experience life the way you hope to. I practice a Biopsychosocial-Spiritual philosophy that guides my understanding of problems. I believe that care should be evidenced based and the therapist individualizes care to meet the person's needs. Office and Online appointments.

In my work with couples, I focus on strengthening trust, connection, and communication between partners.
Relationships are the foundation of our identity. Our relational experiences shape our identity, worldview, choices, patterns of interaction, and purpose in life. They let us know what is loveable about us, what needs we can expect to be met, which emotions are acceptable, and what kind of security may or may not be available to us. I work with individuals, couples, families (age 2-18) and parents, helping them understand their experiences of connection and any patterns, protections, wounds, vulnerabilities, adaptations, or indirect strategies for getting their needs met that may have emerged. I look forward to being alongside you.

I am experienced in helping families, couples, and individuals reconcile relationships with others and within themselves.
Are you experiencing feelings of extreme sadness, loneliness, or anxiety? Do you feel emotionally disconnected from your loved ones? Do you feel like life’s challenges are stealing joy from the relationships you hold so dear? Our behaviors are largely dictated by what we think and by the way we feel. Our thoughts and feelings have a lot to do with our experiences within ourselves, in our relationships, and with the world around us. These experiences often cause feelings such as loneliness, depression, helplessness, anxiety, worthlessness, confusion, and isolation. If this is you, you can overcome and begin to live again.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
