Virginia Home-Based Counseling, P.C. is an intensive in-home counseling service for children, adolescents, and their families. The goal is to address problems and provide therapeutic services designed to empower individuals and families, allowing them to develop and lead healthier lives. The primary goal of this program is to preserve the family unit and prevent the unnecessary placement of children outside of their homes or community. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of comprehensive mental health and substance abuse services to our community, including but not limited to: assessments, crisis intervention and treatment, individual and family counseling, life skills training, therapeutic parenting techniques, communication and relationship enhancement, individual case management, and 24-hour emergency response.

In mental health since 1987, I have been in private practice since 2000. I offer competence and caring in a supportive, safe, inclusive and confidential environment. My varied experience offers me insight into a wide range of areas. I custom craft a growth and learning experience for each individual, family and intimate relationship. My all virtual practice serves MD, VA, DC, MA and NM. I studied psychology at Harvard University, and earned a Masters in Marriage, Family Therapy from the University of San Francisco. I obtained my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. I bring thirty-seven years of deep clinical experience, having worked in diverse settings including inpatient, outpatient, community mental health and crisis services. I have a particular interest in global mental health issues, have lived in many different cultures/countries and have worked extensively with the expatriot community.

I help people to overcome obstacles and/or simply perform their best. I see awareness as a key and utilize a collaborative approach in the work I do with clients. Thoughts, emotions, physiology, and behaviors are brought into awareness. Building awareness of these factors, building awareness of relationship patterns (sometimes using the client/counselor relationship), and emotionally working through tough areas, often leads to feeling and performing better.

Hi, my name is Sharon. I’m a military spouse of 26 years and counting, with 15 years of experience in the mental health field. Traveling the country and meeting people from all walks of life helped solidify my passion and desire to help others achieve their personal self-care goals and become the best versions of themselves. Caring for others is my small way of helping to make a difference in the lives of others during these challenges times. I believe in treating the whole person, the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a specialization in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I developed my specialty in treating emotional trauma by working with PTSD field experts at the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. I offer gold-standard PTSD interventions endorsed by the National Center for PTSD and the American Psychological Association: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE). I value evidence based therapies that are demonstrated to improve mental health. Many of my patients are active duty, veteran and federally employed (civilian).
