The pressure is relentless. So is the feeling that you're facing it alone. Maybe there's a constant hum of anxiety, a loneliness that lingers even when you have people around. You've tried things. They help, until they don't. Fair warning: I'm not what most people expect. But then again, neither are most of my clients. The bigger surprise, for most of them, is that something finally works. The medication that was supposed to fix it — didn't. Suggesting more journaling about it felt like an insult. I get it.

The pressure is relentless. So is the feeling that you're facing it alone. Maybe there's an anxiety that never fully switches off, a loneliness that lingers even when you have people around. Or symptoms your doctor can't quite explain. You've tried things. They help, until they don't. Fair warning: I'm not what most people expect. But then again, neither are most of my clients. The bigger surprise, for most of them, is that something finally works. The medication that was supposed to fix it — didn't. Suggesting more journaling felt like an insult. I get it. Being told it's stress when you know it's more than that — I get that too.

Educated as a Psychoanalyst through the American Psychoanalytic Association I have extensive experience working with the complexity of the mind.
Everyone eventually encounters two kinds of loss: the death of a loved one and ambiguous loss. Both can leave us feeling fragmented, disoriented, and overshadowed by grief. They can also stir up earlier losses, which may surface as depression focused on the past or anxiety about the future. Ambiguous losses are unresolved emotional issues or events that put a strain on everyday life. Unspoken feelings of loss result in anger, sometimes hatred, and abandonment. Feelings of helplessness and unspoken fears leave feelings of being lost in a fast-paced world that feels like it is passing you by.

Are you in an unhealthy relationship? Is it hard for you to set boundaries? Do you have difficulty making decisions? Doubting yourself or feeling like an imposter can make tough times (and decisions) even tougher. I can help you explore and develop a greater understanding and appreciation of your authentic self. Our bodies do keep the score, so it’s vital to connect mind and body. Unprocessed trauma can block that connection. Once our nervous system is regulated, everything seems to fall into place: Anxiety decreases, as does pain perception, while resilience is strengthened and cognitive and creative capabilities are enhanced.

Everyone may experience challenges with mental health depending on life circumstances. I believe people are capable of change when internally motivated and properly supported. Sometimes, however, it may seem that change is near impossible, especially when you are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, recently experienced loss or going through a life transition. Together we will create a roadmap for you to begin making small changes, one step at a time, towards a more fulfilling and rewarding future. Our therapeutic relationship will be built on a foundation of unconditional positive regard and open and honest communication.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
