I have particular interest in working with pregnant and postpartum women, individuals experiencing breakups, and individuals who wish to build more intimate and secure relationships.
Picking fights with loved ones. Worrying about how we're perceived. Reacting defensively to criticism. Ruminating over social interactions. Avoiding difficult conversations. Punishing others when we’re hurt. We do all these things for reasons, but often our reasons are emotional wounds too vulnerable to acknowledge. Many of our behaviors are motivated by deeply held beliefs about ourselves and what we can expect from others. Often, our behaviors are strategic habits we learned in formative relationships that had unhealthy dynamics and imbalances of power.

You are looking for some guidance and direction. You need assistance navigating through difficulties you are having. You want someone who isn't in your family or friend circle to give you perspective.

Hello and thank you for looking over my profile. I am excited to take on new clients virtually or in-person. I believe one of the bravest things a person can do is to take that first step and reach out and ask for help. I offer hope and a safe, collaborative place to explore change and moving forward.

There are many reasons people seek mental health care, perhaps they're going through a tough season in life or there has been complex trauma. Regardless of a client's reason for seeking therapy, my primary goal is to create a relationship supported by comfort and safety. I believe in collaborating with my clients to create a therapeutic plan that is specifically tailored to their individual needs and goals. For those interested I do offer a therapy animal to sit in on sessions and provide additional support.

I specialize in depression and anxiety-related concerns, coping skills, adjustment disorders, grief, and women’s issues.
I have been a licensed clinical psychologist for over 20 years and am currently providing outpatient psychotherapy for adults. One of the most important parts of therapy is establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship so that you may be heard and truly understood. We will meet together to conduct a comprehensive intake evaluation to assess your needs and concerns and work collaboratively to develop realistic and achievable goals. I use empirically-based treatment strategies and consider it an honor to work with you and to support you during this process.

I would bet something's tipped the balance for you from managing your pain and coping with your stresses, to "I can’t do this alone.” It’s a scary place to be in, and it says a lot about your character that you’re willing to reach out. My clients have reached that point in a number of issues. Religious trauma, dissociation, anxiety, depression and LGBTQ issues factor big among my clients.

Feeling stuck or fed up with your current therapist? Let's get real – life can be tough. It’s especially hard on ambitious people, parents & perfectionists who are expected to have it all together. The more successful you are (or are expected to be), the more difficult it is to keep it all together. Add anxiety, depression, & relationship issues – forget it. And the more that you achieve, the harder it becomes to find a therapist of your caliber or solutions that work for your complex issues. But I'm not here to hand out generic advice or quick fixes. I'm here to help you uncover the root of your challenges & build lasting changes.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
