I am a "general practice" psychologist who, much like the family physician treats physical ailments, has the training and experience to provide treatment of the most common mental health difficulties.
I seek to help uncover the underlying conflicts and often unconscious roots of psychological problems. I work with you to develop insight into what underlies your anxiety or depression and to make room for growth and change. When a problem, like ADHD, requires more "hands on" help, I can help tease out what can be treated through psychotherapy, and what might need more direct intervention and even coaching. I provide parenting support and couples counseling. I also provide psychological testing, including ADHD and AAP testing for school aged children.

Enhancing communication and relationship interactions with partners, family , and friends, and by extension, creating positive experiences and a joyful life are further areas of exploration, in a non-judgmental therapeutic ambience that is often interlaced with humor.
I enjoy working with high achievers who are navigating the vicissitudes of life; people who want to understand themselves better; and people who, at their core want to grow in consciousness and heal heart-breaking experiences. I believe that we are spiritual beings having human experiences. The journey in consciousness involves the healing of the heart, soul, mind, and body. Such healing and integration serve to illuminate our genuine selves and brighten our inner spiritual light; a light that illuminates our true selves as soul, and by extension, our unique creativity, work, and contributions to the world.

Whether you are an adult, adolescent, or a child, life can be full of surprises and changes. Sometimes these surprises and changes are welcomed and embraced, while other times, they can be unexpected and difficult to navigate. Therapy can be a helpful avenue to unpack the curiosity, emotions, and uncertainty associated with these transitions.

The key to successful psychotherapy is the trusting relationship which the therapist and client establish. Throughout my career, I have worked hard to welcome, listen and understand in an informal and collaborative manner. My approach with all of my clients, regardless of their age, is to focus on their strengths and to be flexible. I believe that maintaining regular communication with other care givers and family members, (where appropriate,) is key to making progress. My many years of working in the same community allows me to have a vast knowledge of local services, including other professionals.

No, you're not crazy and there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with you! Relationships require work but maybe you’re working harder than ever and still coming up short. Still left feeling overwhelmed with emotion or anxious, angry, and confused. I get it, it's challenging, but it doesn't have to be a constant balancing act in which you’re trying to effectively manage your career, social life, family , or dating, constantly shifting yet never feeling steady. Maybe you’ve had some life transitions –a new job, recent relocation, the loss of a loved one. Change shouldn't have to feel like you'll break down at any moment.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
