I primarily support adolescents and adults who present with a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma and those who struggle with emotion regulation and tolerating discomfort. Typically, my clients have a history of unsuccessful treatments and often present with a history of prior hospitalizations. Many of my clients struggle with self-harming behaviors, substance use and/or suicidal ideation. I also support couples and families seeking a more balanced family dynamic. I work as part of a team at In Step, collaboratively working to support teens, their parents, and adults.

I have experience working with mood disorders, suicidal ideation & self-harm, trauma, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Our emotions can feel overwhelming and difficult to work through sometimes. Many people find it challenging to sit with these emotions and understand them. If this sounds familiar, I may be a good fit for you. Together, we can explore harmful thought patterns, challenge negative beliefs & self-talk, and learn effective techniques to manage emotional dysregulation. I can help you build coping skills, learn how to set healthy boundaries, and have a better understanding of the way our brains process adverse experiences.

Are you looking for a strength-based approach to life? Are you generally an internally peaceful and pleasant person but your unwanted mood or thoughts are more powerful? Do stress, anxiety, and depression make you someone that you do not recognize? Are you mad, sad, or quiet without a true reason that you can express? Are you isolating yourself from activities that you used to enjoy or would consider pleasurable? Are you tired of people looking at who you are from the outside and think that you have everything that you need, but they are missing your internal pain?

I am so glad you found me because that means you are looking for a change, support, and digging into issues that may have just come to light or issues that you have been carrying on your own for far too long. You may be asking yourself, "What's wrong with me?" Or "Why am I like this?" Things may feel like they are falling apart, out of control, or you want to give up. However, you did not give up.

Hello, Thank you for starting with (you) on this journey of self-discovery. I know that opening up to a stranger can feel overwhelming, but I promise that I create a space for acceptance and authenticity. I know I am a professional, but I am a person first. Yes, I have techniques, tools, and school training, but most of all I have life experience. Many of the things I have helped my clients overcome are those I have overcome myself. Life isn't a linear path; along this journey we experience joy and obstacles. Life can feel lonely and often confusing.

Finding a therapist is daunting; I value the work you've done so far. I specialize in trauma-focused care for transitions, eating disorders, and attachment wounds. You may feel stuck, unsure, doubtful that much can improve your way of thinking and relating to yourself, others, and the world around you. Most people attempt to change behaviors instead of the roots of how they came to be; I want to help your heal you inner critic, explore self-compassion, acknowledge your values, and voice your boundaries. I want you to find support and an ally in me. And if you don't, I want to help you find someone else who can be that for you.

Finding a therapist you connect with can feel so overwhelming you avoid it. But that is probably why you're here, because there have been things you've been avoiding and you're ready to get some help. Being foster and adoptive parents is way harder than most people understand, especially those who haven't experienced the invasive and arduous process. As a teen or young adult, you might be feeling lost or angry. You might be having a harder time than others figuring out who are you are and where you fit in the world. My style fuses warmth, humor, and directness.

You yearn for deeper connections with yourself and with others, and to understand what your emotions and urges are trying to do for you. Let’s explore these things together, with patience, compassion, curiosity, and grace.

Are you feeling confused and isolated due to a loss? It is hard to come to terms with the idea we are grieving. While many people can easily relate grief to the death of a person or pet, suffering, in reality, expands across so many areas that we encounter on a day-to-day basis. Maybe you are going through a breakup or struggling with fertility, or you just found out your favorite coworker is moving to a new company. Perhaps you finished that last sip of wine that you brought back from the trip of a lifetime. There are many reasons to grieve, and unfortunately, when we don't know how to process grief, it can make us feel trapped.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
