I am a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience in private practice. I have helped many individuals to develop more peaceful lives, working through feelings of depression, anxiety and relationship struggles. I love working with parents, especially because their growth can have such a positive impact on their children. I have a special interest in working with caregivers of special needs children. This passion developed after facing the challenge of
parenting
my own special needs child. During COVID-19 I will discount rates to make therapy affordable to parents who have medically fragile or behaviorally challenged kids.

My primary focus is working with women who have experienced narcissistic abuse, domestic violence,
parenting
with a trauma history and institutional abuse.
Recovering from trauma is the most inspiring and difficult things one can do in their lifetime. I am a believer that post traumatic growth is possible in all people. I utilize an eclectic approach pulling from a base of radical feminism utilizing approaches from DBT, somatic experiencing, and mindfulness and acceptance based approaches. I firmly believe that everyone has the tools within them to heal and grow and my primary job as therapist is to provide a safe non-judgmental setting for you to discover your healed self.

Whether you are an adult seeking support or the
parent
of a child who needs help, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
I provide therapy for children/teens and adults who are looking for help and support to successfully handle life's challenges. Because my practice includes working with children, I offer strong support for parents and families who are affected by what a child is experiencing. My approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused, meaning that we will look at the interplay among thoughts, feelings and behaviors to explore how negative thought patterns influence behavior and work to change those patterns to provide emotional relief. I help clients develop real-life skills and coping strategies that can last a lifetime.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
