Whether individually or in a
relationship
, I work to help you express your needs while understanding the impact you have on those you love.
Life is filled with crossroads-marriage, divorce, a new baby, an empty nest, a boomerang child. Even the most joyful ones can be challenging and at times we find we could use some support. In my practice I work to help you tap into the strengths that are within you and find your voice - your creativity, courage and compassion - so you can make healthy choices for yourself and your relationships. I enjoy working with individuals,
couples
and families and consider it a privilege to provide a safe, non-judgmental space to help you rediscover hope and work toward your goals.

I have completed EMDR training to help safely address unresolved trauma and PTSD, particularly as it may relate to
relationship
and attachment issues.
I take a warm, empathic approach and create a safe space to explore whatever may be holding you back from achieving more joy, connection, and authenticity in your life. I use evidence-based techniques to help you recognize patterns that are no longer serving you and to develop more adaptive coping skills. In addition to issues surrounding romantic relationships, I focus on individuals struggling with body image, perfectionism, feelings of imposter syndrome and addiction and the underlying shame. Therapy is a collaboration; together we'll set treatment goals, work toward those goals and evaluate our progress.

Though addiction is my focus, I've also worked to help people solve
relationship
conflicts and improve lines of communication.
This is a hard time. Sometimes we get stuck and need someone outside of our circle to help us figure things out. I help people to more deeply understand and change negative or addictive behaviors that are dramatically impacting their lives. Relationships can be so complicated, and trying to find different ways to communicate can feel like a mystery. I work with people struggling with all types of addictions, depression, anxiety, bipolar, and personality disorders. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental, compassionate environment where we will work together to explore areas that are causing pain, and we will find new ways to cope.

Completed extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for
Couples
in 2010.
One of the key beliefs that I hold regarding therapy is that clients generally know what is best for them. Rather than telling clients what to do, I help explore options, loosen possiblities, examine potential consequences and empower clients to make decisions that will ultimately lead to healthy relationships. This is done in a supportive, respectful and collaborative environement.

relationship
conflict, as well as premarital counseling.
Life is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, and forks in the road. Sometimes we feel stuck or like we're not on the right path. Sometimes we're overwhelmed or struggling to reach our goals. Sometimes painful feelings from the past just won't leave us alone. During these times, therapy can help. Therapy provides a protected space for you to explore the changes you want to see in yourself and your relationships and to reflect on what might be getting in the way. It helps you identify and harness the strength and resilience you already possess. Therapy is a tool to help you move out of distress and toward healing and growth.

partner
seemed happy and not every conversation left you feeling angry, sad, or misunderstood? Do you feel like you are banging your head against a wall having the same old fight? It can be very painful when the
relationship
you care the most about is not working or is causing you pain. I am certified in EFT, Emotionally Focused Therapy. Many therapists say they work with
couples
but when your

I am a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience in private practice. I have helped many individuals to develop more peaceful lives, working through feelings of depression, anxiety and
relationship
struggles. I love working with parents, especially because their growth can have such a positive impact on their children. I have a special interest in working with caregivers of special needs children. This passion developed after facing the challenge of parenting my own special needs child. During COVID-19 I will discount rates to make therapy affordable to parents who have medically fragile or behaviorally challenged kids.

between clinician & client.

I also work to support people after abortion, no matter the reason. The clients I work with may be suffering from anxiety or depression, postpartum anxiety and/or depression, maybe have experienced traumatic births or losses, abortion, or the baby blues. Being a mom is really, really hard. Let's talk about it!

Pursuing therapy is a courageous act! I recognize the difficulty of this choice and have great respect for each client who presents themselves to me for help. My aim is to make therapy a safe place where you can express your feelings openly, work through difficult issues and develop tools and solutions. My approach to therapy is to start with a strong
relationship
based on trust and acceptance, identify your goals and use cognitive behavioral therapy tools to teach you how to look at the ways your thinking patterns influence your feelings about yourself and ultimately how you behave in your life.

relationship
enhancement/attachment, positive parenting and treatment for areas such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD and trauma.
There are many reasons people seek support, and none of us is immune to the stress of coping with life's challenges. Clinicians at The Village Wellness Center work with children, teens and adults who seek therapy for issues such as stress-management, coping with difficult emotions (depression/anxiety/anger), parenting strategies,
relationship
issues and healing from trauma and loss. Together we assess the root causes of problems and collaborate to develop a treatment approach. Clinicians integrate evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and play therapy/expressive arts approaches (as appropriate).

Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
