I work with adults and couples carrying relationship strain, chronic stress, grief, identity questions, or the emotional impact of illness, pain, infertility, or medical trauma. Perhaps you are the one who keeps functioning, caring for others, or holding everything together while feeling increasingly disconnected from yourself. As a couple, you may be caught in cycles of pursuit, withdrawal, caregiving, or silence. I work with adults and couples, including men, LGBTQIA+ clients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, who want to understand these patterns and feel more connected, grounded, and fully themselves.

I work with teens, adults, and couples across Virginia who are seeking greater insight or meaningful change and may feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, navigating grief, or experiencing disconnection in their relationships. Many are navigating high levels of stress related to work, relationships, and life transitions. In our work together, we go beyond simply managing symptoms by exploring the underlying patterns that contribute to distress. Through this process, clients develop practical skills, deeper self-awareness, and new ways of relating to themselves and others that support meaningful, lasting change.

I had a philosophy professor who said their answering machine held the two most important questions we could ask ourselves. “Who are you? and “What do you want?” We don’t always know what those answers are, but we can find them out together. Whether you’ve been in therapy before and feel you've hit a wall, or this is your first step towards change, I am confident we can create goals that are right for you. Making a change is a difficult step and I’m here to help you in that transition in any way I can. Together we will identify areas in your life that you want to see change in, and how to shift from surviving to thriving.

You want your energy back, steadier moods, and a life that feels like yours—not just one you’re getting through. If any of that resonates with you, I think I can help.

You're the one everyone calls. The capable one, the dependable one, the one who just figures it out. And you do, every single time. But lately? It's heavier than it used to be.
You're tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. You're functioning, but you know you're not really living. If you're honest, you've been putting yourself last for so long you're not even sure what you actually need anymore. A lot of my clients grew up learning early that their feelings and needs weren't important. Sound familiar? Then you're in exactly the right place.

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
