I believe that therapy should be a partnership and strive to create a warm environment where trust can grow and people can thrive. I hope to help each of my clients identify what makes them their best selves and learn how to leverage those strengths. By finding ways to work with your unique brain instead of against it, we can create individualized strategies that are both practical and effective for you and your ADHD. As a person with ADHD myself, I also know that its effects often reach outside of productivity and organization into psychological and emotional wellbeing.

As the parent of a struggling child or adolescent, you often find yourself wondering what you can do to help them feel better. I believe it is important to understand “What is happening to me” versus “What is wrong with me.” I have had the pleasure of working with clients ages 3 to 55 years old and their families. I am familiar with Court-ordered clients, children in the foster care system, victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence, as well as active duty service members, veterans, and their families.

TELEHEALTH AVAILABLE I believe that everyone has a natural inclination toward positive growth and development, but that life's challenges can block forward movement. These challenges can take the form of depression, anxiety, traumatic events, losses, life transitions, difficulty controlling anger, and difficult relationships. I believe the problems that direct clients into counseling are emotional, physical, and spiritual. Therefore, the whole person must be addressed and treated as a unique and complex individual. As a Christian therapist, I help clients get to the root causes of their distress and assist them to find answers by using solution focused therapy. While some long-term therapy is a necessity I take pride in helping people set goals and objectives to find answers to their issues and struggles. Discover your hidden strengths and find an inner peace that brings stability amidst your storm.

My life took on a whole other meaning growing up as a military dependent and after the death of my Mother. Through it all, I've learned that life is a matter of perspective. I love more passionately, I'm not religious, but my faith has come full circle. There's a quote that speaks volumes and has become the mission behind Lotus of Life Counseling: 'The lotus flower rises through the mud before blooming. It moves past challenges and keeps growing.' I'm here to help you rise and bloom through the murk of life, if you so choose.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
