Just relax, they said - and you want to, but don't even remember what that feels like! What if something goes wrong? It did that one time. You are not alone: many people spend their time dealing with thoughts and feelings that feel intrusive and time-consuming. If you are tired of feeling trapped inside your own head, there is hope. My passion is helping people get unstuck from thoughts and feelings related to past and present experiences including child and adult complex traumas, OCD (Obsessive-compulsive Disorder), scrupulosity, and other anxiety and depression issues and back into living life.

The most profound force is a person’s ability to heal. Life can deal its chaos and turmoil to anyone, but I believe that we are all on our own path toward wholeness. When we lose ourselves for a time, problems such as anxiety, depression, or addiction may arise. My priorities as a therapist are to be a collaborator and guide to nurture the growth and healing that is already occurring in you. I strive to bring a relational style to the therapeutic process knowing that it is sacred–yet potentially painful and intimidating–to ‘bear one’s soul’ to another. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and seek to create a warm and welcoming space for all.

I have over 12 years experience working with victims of domestic and sexual violence. Being able to be there for clients as they unpack the "boxes" of emotional baggage is important to me. As a therapist I am to create a space that is safe and welcoming for clients to be vulnerable without judgement and shame. Clients are encourage to come as they are to therapy and start where they are. If you are feeling like you just need someone to listen to what you are feeling and thinking you have come to the right place.

I think the first thing someone seeking help needs to release is a sense of wrongness - "I let this happen," "I'm no good," "If only I had..." These are all normal, human responses, but they are also hurtful and create a false sense of self. The reason I became a counselor was to help those individuals carrying around guilt and shame. It affects everything - your relationships, your work, everything! I want everyone to thrive and live their fullest life. Being able to see yourself clearly, not for what you've done or did not do, is a powerful healing agent.

I enjoy working with clients who aim to improve their mental health and overall wellness. My three biggest priorities as a counselor are to ensure all of my clients feel safe, happy, and supported. It is my responsibility to meet the client where they are, then guide them through their mental health journey. If you want to grow and heal, I am here to help.

My career background before pursuing a Master of Arts in counseling was as an RN and then as executive director of a nonprofit women's ministry focused on eating disorders and other co-existing conditions. When assessing a client I try to take in the whole person: body, mind, and spirit, considering how each of these components is impacting the others. If a client chooses, I am willing to incorporate Christian faith-based counseling, in addition to a mix of therapeutic approaches. I also provide couples and family counseling. I have been married for 37 years and we have three grown children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 doodle-pups.

I believe it is crucial for those seeking counseling to encounter a safe and compassionate environment. My goal is to meet clients where they are with warmth, connection, faith in their ability to achieve the outcomes they desire, compassionate challenge, and even humor. I hope that clients leave their therapy experience with increased awareness and insight, new skills, a sense of relief, and expanded knowledge about themselves, others and the world around them.

Sometimes we as people just get stuck. When you're a child or adolescent, that may look like anxiety, overwhelm, aggression, isolation, and more. However, we also have the hope and possibility to be unstuck, we just may need some new tools to get there - that's where counseling comes in. Healing and growth and wellness are all possible and worth working for, and asking for help is sometimes the first step.
