After 33 years of being an individual, couples and family therapist I am announcing my retirement. I wish to thank all my colleagues, some of whom have been solid mentors and friends for all their support during this challenging and rewarding career . I also wish to thank the many clients who have trusted me with their most personal stories, traumas, and loss. Your resilience has always made me feel honored to venture into the uncharted territory of hopefully discovering the right solution. For the past 20 years I have had the privilege of working with young adults and adults who have struggled with chronic illness, addiction, life and career transitions and relationship stressors. I come from a solution-oriented perspective and work collaboratively with individuals to identify healthy ways of moving forward in their lives. I support their journey in identifying strengths while working to overcome the parts of themselves that interfere with the life they would like to live.

I specialize in working with individuals who feel stuck, anxious, or depressed, and couples who are looking to improve their relationship. I help my individual clients overcome depression and anxiety, increase self-confidence, establish healthy relationships, increase career satisfaction, and heal from trauma. I help couples improve communication, increase understanding, and rebuild trust. I use a nonjudgmental, empathic approach, working calmly and collaboratively. I incorporate techniques from a variety of counseling models such as cognitive-behavioral, existential, family systems, and attachment theories.

My approach to counseling is a collaborative method to identify and facilitate change with my clients. I have a strong belief in the therapeutic relationship and will strive to meet my clients where they are as they encounter issues. We will work together to establish reasonable and attainable goals that will direct our path through therapy. My theoretical orientation draws on elements from person centered, cognitive behavioral, strength based, and solution focused therapies.

Jordi Izzard, NCC, LPC, grew up an American in South East Asia, received her undergraduate education at Duke University, worked in Corporate America for a decade, all prior to obtaining her Master's degree in Community Counseling (her true passion) from Marymount University. As a longtime resident of Northern Virginia, I know personally that there are unique aspects to living in this area that can magnify the anxiety and pressure that we feel. I primarily work with adolescent girls (14+) and women who are overwhelmed by their stress at school, work, or home as well as those stuck in a transition - whether that be adjusting to high school, college, post-college life, post-partum life, pandemic life, a relationship or family change, a loss, and more.

Facing one's own weaknesses is difficult and opening up even more so-particularly for people whose cultural background and/or family upbringing discourges transparency /self-disclosure. My priority is to create a safe environment where my clients may confront, accept and change aspects of their lives they consider shameful and/or self-destructive. I am a licensed therapist (LPC) and Clinical Supervisor whose clientele have been men and women in their 20s and 30s. I am passionate in helping undergraduates and recent graduates figure out their career planning and life decisions without the pressures of outside influences. As a first-generation graduate, I understand first hand how cultural pressures, societal norms, people pleasing, perfectionism and self doubt can hinder one’s voice, and decision making processes.
