I have experience with de- escalation and stabilizing clients following a traumatic event and providing grief support.
All great changes are preceded by chaos. - Deepak Chopra....... In such uncertain times, it is common to feel confused, disorganized and uncertain about the future. Think back to a time in your life when change was inevitable, though difficult what was the silver lining? What did you learn? How did you grow? and How can you compare this to your current disposition? While we face so much adversity and ambiguity, it is ok to feel out of control. As a Resident in Counseling, I am dedicated to helping individuals and families create the new norm through the use of cognitive behavioral techniques and solutions.

Counseling helps restore development after normal development is disrupted from experiences such as trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, abandonment, discrimination, grief , or other transitional periods in life.
Suffering helps us evaluate our lives, identify what matters most, and initiate a desire for change. Some areas we may want to reduce suffering in our relationships, communication, emotions, self-care, resource management, sleeping and eating habits, work, value-based living, and personal growth. Regardless, the client is the expert in knowing what area of their life is suffering and in need of improvement. I work with individuals and families to help identify areas of need, initiate improvements, and sustain change. I use multiple evidence-based approaches leveraged in neuroscience to help retrain the brain to replace the cycles.

For whatever reason you've made your way here. Whatever the reason is, I want you to know this-your thoughts, feelings and secrets...are safe with me. Maybe you don't have specific goals defined. Maybe you aren't sure where to start in therapy. That's ok. What you do know is that you want to feel better. The ultimate goal is to be able to manage one's own personal challenges, resulting in emotional stability, peace of mind, and a better life. A major predictor of success in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. I see myself as your agent for change. When you are ready call for an appointment at 703-220-0107.

I have clinical interest and experience working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, grief and loss , trauma, and relational issues.
When feelings of worry, irritability, sadness, anger or the curve balls life throws at you become overwhelming, they can begin to interfere with your ability to be fully present at home, work, or in your relationships. Sometimes these feelings may be related to current life stressors, or they may have deeper roots that make them feel harder to untangle. I can help you by providing a warm, safe, and non-judgmental environment to begin the process of self-exploration and healing .I am a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with adolescents and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds.

In my practice, I welcome child (age 2+), parent-child, adolescent and adult clients to explore their strengths and difficulties within a creative, supportive and collaborative therapeutic space. I specialize in play therapy with young children with emotional, social and behavioral issues, developmental delays, anxiety, trauma, and adjustment issues, including moves and family changes. When working with young adults/adults, my training in developmental and child psychology informs my understanding of the whole person seeking help in the present. I strongly value the exploration of past experiences and patterns, and specialize in helping clients with traumatic backgrounds or early loss histories.

Losing a loved one can be the most difficult time in your life. Emotions are often surprising in their strength or mildness. Grief often breaks a person completely from the inside out. Grieving is hard work, you can get worn out, and feel battered. It can take a lot longer to work through grief than most people realize. People around you may think it’s helpful for you to not talk or cry or focus on your loss but actually, this is just what people need to do. The goal is to not stay stuck, to move through it—and this is part of the process. Grief doesn’t get better by ignoring it and trying to ‘get over it.’

I look forward to accompanying you on your journey of self-realization, whether it focuses on the past, present, or future. All evolving individuals are faced with real-life challenges and tragedies that, at times, upend their sense of well-being, leave them in a position of loss and confusion, lacking hope for the future. Life is more than a set of goals, it is also a path of twists and turns that require you to manuver though obstacles in order to find your authentic self. Allow therapy to be the vessel you travel upon on your way to discovering what matters the most and how you can achieve your highest goals.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
