I’m currently engaged in training in Compassionate Inquiry, created by Gabor Mate, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy to further deepen my skills as a relational and trauma-informed therapist.
My passion for therapy stems from my empathetic curiosity for you and your family’s unique story and the countless factors influencing your current state of well-being. Together, we will explore past experiences and present patterns and notice the ways you have learned to adapt and protect yourself in ways that might be limiting or keeping you stuck. I with individuals and families to create space for open, accessible, and responsive connection where you can feel secure to share your experience. Together, we can alter your trajectory, so you are freed up to design meaningful and satisfying relationships with those you love the most.

I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidence-based model rooted in attachment science, and often use this approach in my work.
It takes courage to reach out for help and change can be hard. It’s also important to feel like you’re working with a therapist you can trust and connect with. My approach as a therapist is to come alongside you and provide a non-judgmental space in which we can work through the issues that are creating distress in your life. I will work collaboratively with you to help you better understand yourself in ways that lead to meaningful growth and change. In my work with couples, I help people to untangle themselves from negative recurring patterns and find their way back to one another, experiencing greater intimacy and connection.

I draw from EFT , CBT, Health At Every Size, and Attachment-Based therapies.
I work with adolescents and adults experiencing disordered eating and people seeking to make peace with food and their body. My work also includes people in relationships and individuals experiencing sexual problems, separation and divorce, infidelity, and co-parenting. I use a nonjudgemental, collaborative, person-centered approach to address the individual's needs. I work with individuals to help them recognize their own strengths and incorporate positive coping strategies as they move forward. I believe that creating trust and a little bit of humor go a long way in working through the struggles we face in life.

My integration of Imago, Gottman and EFT is used for couples work.
Life can be a roller coaster. It takes us high with the birth of a child, falling in love, or reaching new goals. It may drop us low mourning a death, suffering abuse, grappling with sexual issues, feeling isolated. Sometimes we feel stuck with no hope on the horizon. You are unique but not alone. Whatever your struggles might be, fighting these battles on your own can be difficult, painful and overwhelming. Your struggles are your journey and sometimes it feels like that road comes to a dead end. Because each journey is unique, I use an integration of therapies to seek other inroads into your healing. One size does not fit all.

In the midst of transitions, stress and hardship, therapy can be an integral part of healing and hope. By meeting together, we can process how your expectations are different than reality and discover insights and energy to move forward. I utilize an integrative approach with individuals and couples facing issues related to stress, anxiety, grief, infertility, infidelity, complex work environments, and more. It can be of great value to carve out time in one's schedule to process whatever they've been pondering throughout the week, but may not have even realized until they started therapy.

These approaches include EMDR, IFS, somatic psychotherapies, and in my relational work EFT and The Gottman Method.
I help clients better access their own innate ability to heal and change. I integrate relational, experiential, and trauma informed approaches in my work with teenagers, adults, couples, and families. My work, first and foremost, is collaborative. I take great care to utilize the therapeutic approaches that best respond to my client’s needs, personality, lifestyle, and background. I learned many of the approaches that I lean on most heavily today in response to what clients brought into my office.

I have advanced training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy ( EFT ), and Brene Brown's The Daring Way, all of which I draw upon to inform my clinical practice.
For many people, psychotherapy is a powerful resource for growth. Our emotions can be complicated and may feel confusing or even overwhelming when trying to tackle them alone. I am an experienced Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in private practice in Falls Church and Fairfax, Virginia. I create a safe, non-pathologizing, trusting environment for you to examine the feelings you tend to hide away from others (and often even from yourself). Together, we can explore and learn from the conflicts that keep you stuck in order to create lasting, positive change in your life.

The Sex Therapist you never knew you needed! When client’s come to my office to seek therapy, the one part of themselves that is most often neglected is sexuality! Most people don’t even mention sexual beliefs, curiosities, behaviors, or attitudes until I ask. I believe that sexuality is so much a part of who we are, there is no way to fully heal and truly be at peace if our sexuality is not explored! As well as specializing in Sex Therapy, I’m also a clinical trauma therapist!

Using the empirically validated techniques of Emotionally Focused Therapy, we will explore the patterns keeping you stuck and disconnected, then learn to access the vulnerable emotions that drive all humans.
So much can get in the way of feeling close to those we love, and sometimes even block us from loving ourselves. Pain and loneliness leave us feeling like we don't have much left to give. Echoes of past trauma can come alive when we least expect them. Distress in our relationships impacts our ability to handle whatever else life throws our way. But when our most important relationships are steady and secure, they can be an amazing source of safety, strength, and healing - I can help your relationships be that source.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
