I have strong experience in helping patients process difficult areas of pain, such as abuse , rape, and domestic violence as well as self harming behaviors and eating disorders.
True growth begins to take shape through self-awareness, reflection, and change. The therapeutic relationship is a major step towards that growth through collaboration, exploration, and understanding. I take great value in this relationship and hope to provide a sense of safety, curiosity, and overall relief of symptoms. I hope to help individuals develop and utilize better coping strategies, gain understanding of behaviors, and make connections between the past and present. It's truly an honor to watch individuals work to gain the successes in their lives, find true happiness and security, and an overall solid sense of themselves.

Counseling helps restore development after normal development is disrupted from experiences such as trauma, PTSD, substance abuse , abandonment, discrimination, grief, or other transitional periods in life.
Suffering helps us evaluate our lives, identify what matters most, and initiate a desire for change. Some areas we may want to reduce suffering in our relationships, communication, emotions, self-care, resource management, sleeping and eating habits, work, value-based living, and personal growth. Regardless, the client is the expert in knowing what area of their life is suffering and in need of improvement. I work with individuals and families to help identify areas of need, initiate improvements, and sustain change. I use multiple evidence-based approaches leveraged in neuroscience to help retrain the brain to replace the cycles.

One of the bravest things a person can do is reach out for support. And here you are, doing just that. Let’s be honest: life can be heartbreaking. When processing experiences of sexual assault, domestic violence , or child abuse and neglect, it can be helpful to have a safe place to process your feelings, challenge guilt and shame, and explore ways to alleviate any symptoms you may be experiencing.

I have worked with immigrant populations for nine years addressing issues that include trauma, domestic violence , parent-child relational, family reunification, at risk adolescent behavior, anger management, youth substance use, gang prevention, sex trafficking prevention, academic underachievement, anxiety, and depression.
For many immigrants, emigrating to the United States can be an exciting experience filled with anticipation, hope, and the start of a new chapter in their life. However, this experience can also bring with it challenges such as acculturative stress, anxiety, depression, and new and old trauma. At times, it is difficult to know how to address these challenges. Seeing a therapist is usually the first step to getting the support and guidance needed to successfully navigate stressors related to acculturation.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
