I work with individuals, couples and families dealing with a variety of conditions. Whether there is one person or more in my office, my therapeutic philosophy is the same. This is because I believe that the quality of our relationships has a direct impact on the overall quality of our lives. For individuals, this means taking ownership of your own personal actions, values and personal growth. I help couples to learn how to improve their communication skills, develop tools to enhance their relationship, create better boundaries, and identify positive ways to respond to their spouse amid conflict and differences in perspective.

Each of us faces different challenges in our lives. It can be difficult to navigate them alone. We must learn to adapt to the expected and unexpected changes in life. During these times of change, it is helpful to have empathetic and caring support to understand what you are going through and find a way to adjust. Whether it is walking through the inevitable challenges of a relationship, career transitions or facing the unexpected “curve balls” of mental health and addictions, we can work together to understand how best to face them.

Are you struggling with feeling stuck in a cycle of behaviors or thought patterns that you just can’t seem to get out of? Do you find yourself trying to avoid, ignore, numb out from, or are simply overwhelmed by your emotions? Experiencing pain and brokenness is a part of life, although oftentimes we wish it wasn't. We would prefer to just skip past all the hard parts. But our wounds and areas of brokenness don’t have to define us. Instead, they can be catalysts for resilience, growth and compassion, toward yourself and others. I believe true healing is possible for everyone, no matter what you have been through or who you are.

I believe that everyone can benefit from psychotherapy. Utilizing this process can help you to identify, develop, and implement behavioral, emotional, and cognitive change that can allow you to feel more centered and self-confident, and can provide an increased sense of empowerment to address future challenges. I view seeking help through psychotherapy as a sign of strength rather than of weakness. Taking this step often makes one feel anxious, but my experience is that once taken, people usually feel a sense of relief, combined with an increase in hopefulness. In a way, seeking help is the first step on the path to healing.

All great changes are preceded by chaos. - Deepak Chopra....... In such uncertain times, it is common to feel confused, disorganized and uncertain about the future. Think back to a time in your life when change was inevitable, though difficult what was the silver lining? What did you learn? How did you grow? and How can you compare this to your current disposition? While we face so much adversity and ambiguity, it is ok to feel out of control. As a Resident in Counseling, I am dedicated to helping individuals and families create the new norm through the use of cognitive behavioral techniques and solutions.

"You may have a fresh start any time you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down." - Mary Pickford. I specialize in working with adolescents, families, and couples who are experiencing issues related to trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and military issues. I help clients recognize thought patterns that are destructive to themselves and their relationships so that they can create a new version of themselves by increasing their self esteem, self worth, and by giving them strategies to overcome.

Are you ready to embark on a new journey to transformation? Are you feeling disconnected and alone? Are you struggling with negative thoughts that keep you stuck? Many of us have experienced hard circumstances that have weighed us down and keep us in reoccurring feelings and negative situations. If any of this sounds familiar, I would be honored to meet you. One of the most important factors in the effectiveness of counseling is whether or not you feel “understood” and accepted. You will find that in our sessions.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with experience working with clients in their teen years up to late adult years. If you are someone who is struggling with feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unfulfilled, therapy is a great place to explore those feelings and find ways to overcome and move forward. Often times feelings of depression, anxiety and self doubt can be brought on by stress, life transitions and a sense of not being fulfilled. My passion is to guide others on their own path to healing so they can live up to their true potential.

How can I find a therapist in Fairfax?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
