Anxiety can feel overwhelming. Trying to manage worry, panic attacks, or
obsessive
compulsive disorder can be challenging. You may find that the harder you try, the more you fight, the worse it gets. Well meaning friends and family members may try to help by offering advice of their own: Don’t worry about it. Think about something else. Just try to relax. Unfortunately these suggestions are rarely helpful. The truth is, anxiety can be managed. The solutions, however, are often counterintuitive.

You may be experiencing intrusive thoughts, stress, scrupulosity/
OCD
, or other reasons to seek services; if this is the right season for you to explore counseling, reach out today to arrange an initial meeting.
After a long day, it is sometimes hard to say why you feel restless. Like the changing of seasons, we often don’t know how our life can look so different than it did just yesterday. You may be experiencing a new layer of stress at home or work, or maybe you're wrestling with what feel like the same old problems. Perhaps your relationships with others, with God, or with yourself are not where you want them to be. When we feel least like ourselves, it’s good to check in and slow down.

As a licensed psychologist, I am specially trained to work with anxiety-related, depression, insomnia,
OCD
, and stress-related problems.
Stop! Hit pause and ask: what am I looking for? Therapy doesn't need to be stuffy or scary. It is a place to be human; to learn to trust someone who wants your success; to talk genuinely about the best and the worst of our lives. It can be funny, tearful, and meaningful. Whether it is me or someone else, I care about finding support that fits your needs. I am a kind, planful therapist. To succeed, we must be an effective team. I need to listen carefully to your goals, strengthen our relationship, and keep us accountable. I will misunderstand at times, and so I strive to make you feel comfortable communicating feedback.

I am different from most therapists in that I offer solutions early in the therapy process and I give advice. I tend to work well with people who want to get better, but are not necessarily excited about seeing a therapist - or who have not benefited from therapy in the past. It is very valid to seek out a therapist simply for support. It is what a lot of people need. But it is difficult to find a therapist who will help you understand what is perpetuating your problems in a clear and actionable way - and who will offer evidence-based interventions to make your life better as soon as possible so that you can live a happier life.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
