I have over 40 years of experience working as a school psychologist in K-12 settings. My expertise is in psycho-educational assessment to identify learning difficulties (in reading, writing and math),
ADHD
, and socio-emotional/behavioral difficulties that impact academic performance. These results form the foundation for accommodations and interventions that enable students to learn at their potential. Psycho-educational assessment measures cognitive abilities while identifying processing strengths and weaknesses, which enhance our understanding of students’ needs in the learning environment.

More about specialties: I work with children 18 months and up; specialize in working with children and adult children of alcoholics, patients with chronic pain, patients experiencing depression and or anxiety, patients with
ADHD
, couples and whole families.
I believe in the human spirit and our capacity to make positive changes in all aspects of our lives, even in the face of adversity. By exploring our thought patterns, we can better identify feelings that affect our actions on a daily basis. We can then make effective changes that improve the quality of our lives, decreasing stress, anxiety, and depression and providing us with a more peaceful and joyful life. I also believe in the benefit of human interaction with other loving creatures; you will meet my little Yorkie-Poo therapy partner, Mojo, when you come to visit me. He loves children and adults.

I specialize in complex trauma (C-PTSD), relationships, addiction, depression, anxiety, and
ADHD
. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming. People often carry their pain for years; scared that they are broken, that they don’t deserve happiness, or that changing will only make things worse. But the fact that you are here now shows that a part of you wants more from life, and is ready to try again. Though it takes courage and perseverance to face this pain and risk trusting another person to help, I hope you will listen to the part of you the brought you here today.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
