Our program is designed for those wanting to recover from addiction but finding that once a week treatment appointments are not enough but don't meet criteria for a residential program. Clients in our program attend 3 three-hour meetings a week for 12 weeks. Each client starts with a full diagnostic assessment and medical evaluation by our medical director. Program content is educational, clinical treatment, and 12-step work. We have rolling admissions so you can start within a few days of first calling us. Groups are run by a male and a female therapist. We encourage family participation.

I also have a specialization in addiction counseling, and believe substance use and other addictive behavior is often a secondary symptom of a primary wound.
Currently accepting new clients! I am a Resident in Counseling at Full Life PC (under supervision of Hunter Teets, MA LPC, VA license 0701005525). I believe that all people have the capacity to change when in a safe, encouraging environment. By attending to the whole You instead of just symptoms, we can help you find a greater sense of purpose and peace. My style of counseling emphasizes the therapeutic relationship, and often utilizes humor, perspective-taking, and focus on connecting authentically and non-judgmentally. Sometimes being a person is hard, especially these days, and we just need somewhere to talk about it!

My work is focused on all types of addictive behaviors, especially the use and abuse of substances. An Addiction is simply the use of something outside of ourselves to change the way we feel inside. I help individuals cope with their Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders by using an eclectic array of theories. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is extremely affective in treating addiction , but I use whatever techniques are required to help individuals overcome their addiction and face the underlying issues that are being medicated by their behaviors. I received a Masters in Community and Addictions Counseling from William & Mary.

Folks that come to me for support struggle to manage the thoughts and feelings that lead to relapse and mental health crises. My experience tells me that these folks feel disconnected from themselves and their community. Establishing connectivity to their friends, family, and their broader social setting is crucial for wellness and for healing. Everyone has the goal of contentment and peace of mind, and substance abuse more than most challenges undermines the fulfillment of these basic needs. To heal and prosper, substance abusers and trauma survivors need to practice self care in the bio psychosocial-spiritual way of life.

During the past six years, I have helped many teens, and young adults with a variety of challenges including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, substance use, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Life can feel like an ocean of chaos that resists all forms of management at times. Whether it is mentally, physically, spiritually, or interpersonally, life has no shortage of challenges that can knock us off course. These challenges leave us feeling drained, isolated, and unable to find our rudder in troubled waters. Even if we want to find our bearings, it can feel like an insurmountable task, and the temptation to surrender in the face of long odds is all too real. However, we do not have to face these challenges alone. Therapy can provide a safe space to explore your decision-making process and increase awareness and insight.

I specialize in complex trauma (C-PTSD), relationships, addiction , depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming. People often carry their pain for years; scared that they are broken, that they don’t deserve happiness, or that changing will only make things worse. But the fact that you are here now shows that a part of you wants more from life, and is ready to try again. Though it takes courage and perseverance to face this pain and risk trusting another person to help, I hope you will listen to the part of you the brought you here today.

heather-newcomb.clientsecure.me I am most easily accessible via email, and would recommend that you send an email to reach me. I have 10 years experience working with those struggling with addiction . This is almost always due to past trauma events that initially lead to substance use. Depression and anxiety are often co-occurring disorders that accompany substance use disorders and can lead to further life disruption. My clients want freedom from the mental heath and substance use disorders that are holding them back from their full potential and reaching their dreams.

I have over ten years of working in community mental health. I have enjoyed working with a diverse population of people to include children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges, adults with serious mental illness, and substance abuse problems. I provide individual and group therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. I do believe that some of the suffering experienced in life oftentimes results from faulty thinking which eventually leads to unwanted emotions and behaviors. I provide a safe, warm and welcoming atmosphere that allows for self exploration, discovery, and healing of the mind and heart.

I work with a diverse population experiencing various disorders and concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relational and adjustment challenges, grief and loss, family problems, and addiction .
Welcome! Beginning therapy is a courageous step in the healing process. I have seen firsthand the transformative results of psychotherapy. I practice counseling from a relational depth perspective. This means focusing on the relationship I build with clients as a cornerstone of treatment and working with the unconscious, which is the root of most distress. I help clients work through symptoms which are causing conflict in their lives, keeping them from achieving their goals, and preventing them from feeling a sense of overall well-being.

Most of my clinical training was at VA hospitals in Palo Alto, CA and Asheville, NC, treating post-traumatic stress and substance use disorders.
I am a firm believer in evidence based treatments and have extensive training and practice in such. That being said, I recognize that "evidence" is usually based on outcomes of clinical trials with very controlled environments where very specific populations with very specific diagnoses are treated. Thus, I find that I am most effective when adapting, integrating and tailoring treatments to my clients' individual needs.

My professional background involves over 15 years of experience specializing in a wide range of client needs, ranging from substance abuse and relapse to individual and family needs.
Although my therapeutic approach is an eclectic style to counseling, I also care about my clients, and utilize in-depth listening skills to first identity the problem, and then help you understand how that problem personally affects you and the ones you love. Then together we can find solutions that work. In this region, I use video therapy, which has become a viable alternative to face-to-face therapy. It provides a secure and convenient method of processing your life in the privacy of your own home. This is a proven and successful option for many of my national clients.

Therapy often focuses on life’s biggest challenges and difficult emotions, but that doesn’t mean therapy has to be a distressing experience. I work with adolescents and adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, adjusting to life changes, addiction , and PTSD. I specialize in treating trauma and utilize Cognitive Processing Therapy to guide individuals through reprocessing what they have experienced in order to cultivate healing and growth from their traumas. I have helped survivors of a wide variety of traumatic events including but not limited to; sexual assault, childhood abuse, combat related trauma, and domestic violence.

My specialties include self-doubt and low self-esteem, anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, codependency, family dynamics and difficulties connecting in relationships.
As a counselor, I understand that trauma occurs at any age, in many different forms. It can be overt, in the case of physical abuse and death; ambiguous, in the form of divorce, break-ups, peer pressure, bullying and the impact of social media. It can also be entirely hidden from our consciousness. Counseling is a way to approach and connect with trauma in a safe place. It is a way to help yourself heal.

Addiction Therapists
A person with an addiction uses a substance, or engages in a behavior, for which the rewarding effects provide a compelling incentive to repeat the activity, despite detrimental consequences. Addiction may involve the use of substances such as alcohol, inhalants, opioids, cocaine, and nicotine, or behaviors such as gambling.
