We all experience times of feeling disconnected from family, friends, or coworkers. When this human experience is prolonged or frequent it may lead to unskillfull coping and greater suffering. I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF CONNECTION WITH OTHERS AND I KNOW THIS PROCESS MUST START WITH CONNECTING TO OURSELVES. I also have experience and training in providing therapy to couples and individuals around issues of grief and loss, trauma, anxiety , depression, bipolar disorder, and asperger's syndrome.
I provide therapy from the belief that therapy is a collaborative journey in which, together, we identify what gets in the way of life goals. Then we create a vision along with a plan to go from where you are to where you want to be in their life. I have participated in extensive training as a family and couples therapist with over 10 years of practice experience. Families in which one member exhibits the symptoms of ADHD, ADD, oppositional and defiant behaviors, impulsive and violent behaviors, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety , and learning disabilities work well with me.

My specialties are anxiety , depression, and trauma.
Have you tried therapy and felt that it was not a good fit or that talking about your problems wasn't enough? I work with the whole person, going beyond traditional talk therapy and integrating exploration of your body's innate wisdom and its role in your healing. By learning how your nervous system reacts to stressors, you will learn to better navigate life's challenges and restore vitality to your life. Some of the populations I particularly enjoy working with are young adults and college students, people who are new to therapy, and empowering those who identify as women during life transitions.

As a strengths-based and trauma-informed therapist, I am passionate about helping clients to repair deeply held wounds, especially relational wounds, which are often at the core of symptoms such as depression, anxiety , and addictive behaviors. Though I work with clients to help alleviate their troubling symptoms, my work is more fully anchored in the belief that the sensitive exploration of underlying injuries enables not just symptom-reduction but transformation and growth.

I can provide support for students coping with adolescent stressors, which are often seen in students experiencing anxiety or those on the autism spectrum.
I have over 40 years of experience working as a school psychologist in K-12 settings. My expertise is in psycho-educational assessment to identify learning difficulties (in reading, writing and math), ADHD, and socio-emotional/behavioral difficulties that impact academic performance. These results form the foundation for accommodations and interventions that enable students to learn at their potential. Psycho-educational assessment measures cognitive abilities while identifying processing strengths and weaknesses, which enhance our understanding of students’ needs in the learning environment.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor for many years, I am continually inspired by the transformative moment that happens in the counseling process. There is a sacredness in being present to another as a guide on this journey we call life. Whether it is exploring inner resources for healing and growth or the possibilities for deep and lasting change, it is an honor to work with people that are desiring a better way to be themselves in the world. My own journey has taught me that being truly present and engaged allows space for the unknown to be revealed, acknowledged, and eventually integrated into the service of the whole self.

I believe that biology, experience and environment affect how we live in and experience the world . If you are struggling to live to your fullest, we can explore your challenges by creating a safe space to slow down and explore why. You will learn to listen to what your body and mind are telling you by learning to recognize negative beliefs, negative patterns, and unhealthy relationships and begin to make the changes you deserve.

Our services are driven by the needs of our clients and achieving health and wellness outcomes by strengthening individuals, families, and communities. Our approach is based on the integration of mind and body rather than independent organs or systems divided by specialties or functions. Having a common framework as the foundation of our work helps our interdisciplinary team effectively communicate across specialties and uniquely allows us to address specific challenges across multiple facets of life, effectively identify and evaluate options and opportunities, design more effective treatments, and, ultimately, solve problems.

As your therapist, I will guide you to recognize learned patterns of thinking, acting and feeling that may be creating suffering in your life. Together we will explore where and why you learned those patterns. Once fully understood, you will find the courage to transform those learned patterns into healthier ones. I will then guide you to practice these new and healthier patterns in the therapy room as well as in your life outside the therapy room. Once you transform old patterns of relating into healthier ones, you will feel lighter, more confident and happier.

I am passionate about the connection with one's core self. I have found that trauma and transitions can result in a disconnect with the core self and that peace and healing can be achieved by repairing this connection. Pre-adolescence, adolescence, and early adulthood are times marked by a myriad of major transitions. This process of transitioning between life stages continues across the lifespan. Additionally, a disconnect with the core self may be rooted in trauma or transition that happened many years ago. To this end, I provide services to preteens, teens, and adults.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
