I work with those struggling with childhood trauma, PTSD, complex
grief
, depression, relationship issues.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Life Coach. My approach to therapy is to help clients identify, understand, and ultimately change the areas in their lives that have contributed to emotional and relationship pain. I deeply believe that to have the breakthrough we need in current relationships we must understand our history and how it profoundly colors and impacts us as adults. Once we learn to own our history, it no longer owns us.

I specialize in providing trauma-informed, culturally sensitive therapy to women, processing traumatic
grief
and challenges related to pregnancy, childbirth and adjustment to newborns.
There are some changes and losses in life that break us. Completely. Totally. Every area is fragmented, jagged and raw. Sometimes the hurt is so overwhelming that we become numb, afraid, avoiding things that we used to enjoy. It’s hard to put those pieces back together again. They don’t fit the way they did before. While time may heal some wounds, moving from being functional in your pain to being free from that hurt takes effort and therapy. As a licensed clinical social worker with over ten years of experience, I’m here to assist you in moving from function to freedom.

I am currently providing therapy and teletherapy for individuals, couples, and families, for a variety of problems, including but not limited to: anxiety and stress, depression and loneliness, marital and family conflict,
grief
, and more.
No matter who you are, life is hard. The difficulties of day-to-day life often put us in an irresolvable bind: On one hand, the stressors are too big and too painful to ignore. And yet, while we may wish for and even utilize the support of those around us, for a whole host of reasons, we often resort to going it alone. In these moments, therapy can be a promising new option: a confidential relationship rooted in honesty, understanding, and compassion. It is my belief that such a relationship can provide a fresh start: a new orientation towards our problems and a new way of experiencing the world we live in.

EMDR swiftly targets events/memories, strengthening positive thoughts/experiences & eliminating those triggered with quick & painful effects (stress, anger, shame, isolation, depression); "targets" may include
grief
, nightmares, & times your physical or emotional well-being felt threatened.
I help individuals find desired change, relief, and insight by increasing understanding and awareness of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. I teach practical coping skills and guide clients in reprocessing distressing experiences and memories. With a mindfulness and strength-based approach, one technique I offer, as needed, is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing). Through this work together, you'll connect more with your inner, positive voice and truths, and decrease automatic behaviors and thoughts that make "small" issues feel overwhelming, that cause "freezing" or fighting. This results in more comfort with yourself and more confidence with other people or situations.

Additionally, I understand that there are times when brief consultations with a professional may be beneficial, such as in divorce,
grief
, or a typical developmental stage.
I specialize in family, couples, and individual therapy for children and adults. I believe that, within the context of a supportive relationship, people can understand their problems in new ways and learn skills towards leading healthier and more fulfilling lives. I utilize a strengths-based approach that incorporates cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and systemic interventions. People see the most change when doctors, psychologists, teachers, and other players are working together. Thus, with your permission, I consult with others in order to better understand the problem and provide solutions that expand beyond the therapy room. When appropriate, I will be your advocate.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
