Seeing a therapist isn't only for people in major life crisis. People in everyday life situations can also benefit from therapy. We all need help at times to understand our feelings, deal with life's challenges and feel hopeful about the future. Life can feel like a roller coaster sometimes. It may take us high with the birth of a child or falling in love and it may drop us low mourning a loss, suffering abuse, or feeling immobilized by depression. Therapy can help you find ways to manage those emotions and promote your well-being.

I work with people who find themselves in seasons where life isn’t going the way they expected. Many are navigating anxiety, questions about identity or faith, relationship conflict, or periods of depression. Together we work to understand the patterns that keep them stuck and develop practical skills to move forward with greater clarity and stability. Since earning my master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, I have been committed to providing thoughtful, high-quality care to my clients. I am trained in CBT, DBT, Gottman Method, and client centered approaches to help build insight, strengthen coping, and create meaning

Many of the clients I work with are high functioning women whose anxiety has not improved with therapy, coping strategies, or self help. They often feel chronically on edge, over responsible in relationships, or unsure why certain experiences continue to affect them. Some have been told their symptoms are “just anxiety” without a clear explanation that actually fits. They are looking for clarity, accurate understanding, and a path forward that makes sense.

Does life seem confusing or even impossible? Does it ever feel like even when you are with others you feel alone? It is brave to ask for help. With every fiber of my being, I believe you have the answers you need and you can be the expert on you. Let me help you better understand your story and help guide you out of the dark places you are stuck in and into your truth. So much of the time we are living a narrative that others have crafted, by pain rather than strength. These narratives can feel like prisons but you have the ability to heal and take back your story.

Fit in everywhere and nowhere at the same time? I get it. I help diverse women who juggle multiple cultural identities heal. Maybe you’re the child of immigrants, multiracial or a racially ambiguous chameleon, an expat, “third culture kid”, bilingual (or sad you lost your parent’s language), feel culturally displaced, part of a religious minority, or just don’t quite fit into any one box. You probably feel suffocated by the drive to overfunction, perform, and be what everyone else needs you to be. You might find it hard to get your own needs met and feel unsettled in yourself and your relationships.

You may appear capable on the outside yet feel stuck in cycles of self-doubt, people-pleasing, or never feeling “enough.” Past wounds, from childhood experiences, painful relationships, or social pressures, can shape how you see yourself and how you move through the world. Many of the people I work with are LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, or individuals who have navigated sexism, racism, ableism, or other forms of marginalization and have learned to mask or minimize parts of themselves to get by.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
