Most of my clients have been in rooms most therapists haven't. They've made decisions under pressure, carried things they can't explain, and come home to a world that doesn't quite fit. They're not fragile. They're stuck.
Before I was a clinician, I spent over two decades in civilian paramilitary and federal work across conflict zones including Afghanistan and South Sudan. I understand this population from the inside.
I work with trauma, PTSD, moral injury, anxiety, and chronic high-responsibility stress. Direct, practical, evidence-based.

I understand that therapy is hard work, time-consuming, and expensive. I want to make sure that you are getting your money's worth and that you are making concrete progress towards your goals. In order to do this, I collaboratively set concrete goals at the outset of treatment and use these goals to track progress with my patients. I work with my patients to identify the function of their problematic behaviors. This helps to reduce shame around the behaviors and encourages acceptance of oneself that unblocks patients and leads to change. I teach my patients value-congruent coping skills to use in place of the problematic behaviors.

We are not meant to do this thing called life alone. I believe in the need for the culture of therapy to include genuine, empathetic, helpful, and compassionate humans. I have a passion for providing others with support as they navigate through the ups and downs of life. I believe there is great importance in a safe, non-judgement, and supportive therapeutic environment and relationship.

In my initial training experience as a hospital chaplain, I encountered patients and families in crisis, often going through personal oceans of grief and loss. As an intern at an urban Veterans Administration's behavioral health clinic, I saw how the trauma of war and chronic mental illness challenged patients, already isolated, even in their own families. At the Royal Edinburgh Hospital (Scotland) and at Tavistock Institute (London), I learned to think not just with my head, but also with my gut. My post-MSW career included work at a state mental hospital and as a Clinical Associate in Duke's Department of Psychiatry.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.
What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.
How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.
How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
