Anger Management Therapists in Broadlands, VA
Seeing a therapist isn't only for people in major life crisis. People in everyday life situations can also benefit from therapy. We all need help at times to understand our feelings, deal with life's challenges and feel hopeful about the future. Life can feel like a roller coaster sometimes. It may take us high with the birth of a child or falling in love and it may drop us low mourning a loss, suffering abuse, or feeling immobilized by depression. Therapy can help you find ways to manage those emotions and promote your well-being.

My experience has been with clients who present outwardly high-functioning but internally feels overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves or their relationships. Are you an adult navigating anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or life transitions, or a couple struggling to communicate, feel emotionally attuned, or break recurring conflict cycles? Some clients are introspective, and deeply aware that “something isn’t working,” yet unsure how to change it without feeling guilty, anxious, or emotionally exhausted.

Let’s sail to wholeness! My name is Ja’Keil Gilchrist, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). In my experience as a mental health professional, I have seen a lot but a common theme in individuals served has been feelings of brokenness: and the need to heal in a safe setting. I have discovered that often times an individual’s brokenness stems from disunity within the mind, body, and spirit which ultimately impacts the entire being. This brokenness and need for healing can be a result of low self-esteem, experienced trauma, mental illness, women/men problems, financial, interpersonal, relational, and/or occupational concerns.

A lot of the people Aaron works with are used to pushing through.
They're working, showing up, handling responsibilities, maybe even doing well on paper, but underneath it can feel like something just isn’t clicking.
They might notice:
being overwhelmed or mentally stuck
procrastination or difficulty following through
frustration or shutdown in relationships
reacting quickly and then regretting it later
feeling misunderstood, especially by partners or coworkers
For some, this is connected to ADHD, autism, or, it could be years of operating in high-stress environments without the right tools or understanding.

We will explore how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors or actions affect your every day mood and emotions with these treatments, and how you can change your anger, depression, or anxiety into more positive outcomes.
The ideal client can be any human being without placing discrimination on that person. The client possibly may need help with emotional regulation, anxiety, self-image issues, ADHD, domestic violence, etc. Their goals pertain to specific objectives and interventions, which would determine their willingness to work successfully on their own. A client would not want judgment and drama; however, a more caring, empathic, and nonjudgmental environment. Also, the client would express their thoughts, feelings, and actions in a confidential manner that he or she feels secure and safe with me.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
