At The Weight Room, we provide therapy built for Black and Brown men.
You’ve been carrying a lot—stress, relationship struggles, life transitions, or the weight of expectations. Maybe communication keeps breaking down, trust has been shaken, or you feel stuck with no clear direction. You want change, but figuring it out alone feels overwhelming. Deep down, you want peace, clarity, and confidence in your next steps. Whether it’s rebuilding after infidelity, navigating fatherhood, or breaking cycles of frustration, you’re ready for something different. Therapy shouldn’t feel like another burden—it should be a space where you can lay it down, sort through it, and come back stronger.

While I am happy working with adults of any identity, my primary specialty is working with men.
I will do my best to listen carefully and closely, and speak back in ways that enhance your curiosity and understanding. In this collaboration, you will be able to discover more of who you are both to yourself, and to other people. You will find in me someone who respects all parts of you and challenges you. I understand that therapy is not easy, and will do my best to make you feel understood throughout the process.

I work with people experiencing depression and anxiety, anger issues, substance abuse, and different forms of trauma and abuse, especially with men.
Do you ask yourself "why do I feel this way?" or "how did I get here?" or "where am I going in life?" Exploring the inner world can be daunting, and I am interested in helping individuals navigate that path safely, mindfully, and with clear vision and awareness. I'm comfortable working with clients from diverse and varied backgrounds, and I've worked in outpatient and community mental health, intensive residential, hospitals and correctional settings. As a result, I've developed a real respect for the many ways we all deal with issues and struggle through life the best we can.

Men, Women and Children are all invited.
You, your family, and your children matter to many people. Sometimes in our lives, it’s remarkable the happenings that we can't comprehend. This is why counseling can help anyone and everyone get a better understanding of their situation by receiving the correct type of treatment in order to move on with their lives. Mentalities do not have to hold us back for the rest of our lives. With the right tools and understanding of how to use them, and with God’s help, you can overcome all obstacles. My sole purpose is to help people get back into loving and caring relationships with one another and, with self-care, have fun and enjoy life!

I tend to be very good at building rapport with women, and with men who don't want to be in therapy.
I work best with people who want results, and do not want to be in therapy just for the sake of being in therapy. I have considerable expertise and experience treating Anxiety and Panic, OCD, Depression, and Marital/Couples problems. I am compassionate and friendly, and I use humor frequently. I will help you understand the causes of your struggles and what the science says about solving them. My picture doesn't look that warm, does it? But I can probably get you to laugh while we're moving toward a solution.

Men's Counseling: Are you a man who feels stuck between anger and numbness?.
Talking about this stuff isn't easy, especially for guys. We're given the message early on that we are "fixers" and showing our feelings would make us seem weak. As a man I know these pressures well.

We are now leading a virtual group for men suffering from sexually compulsive sexual behavior and sexual addictions who are seeking an alternative to self-help or 12 step groups.
Feeling anxious or depressed is a reasonable response to living in an uncertain world. For many of us, recent years have brought loss and trauma. It may feel like you will never heal. Learning to cope and adapt may feel overwhelming. You want to be your "old self again," but it feels impossible. You may have tried to heal yourself, only to realize you need help. You may hesitate to seek help for fear of being judged. You may feel that you are alone in your struggles, but I want you to know that you are not alone. There is hope.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
