Self-growth isn't easy. Making the decision to grow and heal is even more difficult. Know that you won't be walking down the path of healing by yourself. I'm excited to see the work that you and I will accomplish and the goals you'll achieve by choosing yourself, growth, and healing! Blending my clinical experience and neuroscience educational and research background, I help clients better understand the challenges that bring them to therapy, destigmatize their struggles, and identify affirming, empowering solutions that increase confidence and self-connection.

Many clients I work with are capable, thoughtful people who’ve spent years managing on their own, thinking their way through problems, holding it together for others, and pushing emotions aside until they become too loud to ignore. Despite insight and effort, they feel stuck in the same patterns. In therapy, I focus on building a relationship where you feel safe exploring what’s happening beneath the surface and supported in taking emotional risks that lead to real change. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or repeating relationship patterns, therapy can be a space to move beyond coping and toward clarity and relief.

You are a unique, deeply loved child of God. That's the truth. The problem is, that as soon as you were born, sin--first others' and then your own--began to cloud your identity. I see counseling as clearing away those sin clouds to uncover your true self. And, as you seek to repair yourself and your broken relationships, I would love to help you apply Christ's principles of prayer, repentance, forgiveness, holy purpose, & sacrificial love to your way of living so that you might bring greater peace and happiness to yourself and those around you. For more info, check out my book "99 Soul Stretches..." to be found on Amazon Kindle.

I have experience working with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, coping with lifestyle transitions and stress and trauma. I believe that therapy is an opportunity for exploration and growth. Starting the therapeutic journey can be daunting and my goal is to walk alongside and empower clients to reach their goals. My approach is to help clients develop skills they need to cope with stress, emotions, and challenges while keeping in mind that different strategies will work for different people. Most importantly, the relationship I aspire to cultivate between each client will instill hope and self-acceptance.

Therapy doesn't have to feel like just another thing you "should" be doing. You're trying to be the best you can be, but you feel the weight of life's burdens on your shoulders. Perhaps you are feeling lost or alone in where to start, or you are so deep-ache tired that you don't even have the energy to begin. Are you usually the one responsible for taking care of other's needs, often at the expense of your own? Maybe it's time to take a step back and take care of you. There's an infinite world within you that is waiting to be freed from all of the burdens you carry, and I can help!

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
