With an ally, you would feel confident taking back your life by working to stop the cycle of anxiety that is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
As someone that struggles with unwanted or intrusive thoughts, feelings, sensations, or urges, you often find yourself spinning in circles. You are constantly hounded by doubt and spend most of your time just trying to keep your head above water. You know that you are being illogical, but just can't seem to shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen. It can be scary to reach out for help. You may worry that you will be judged if you tell anyone about the content of your thoughts, so you suffer in silence. So often it seems that you have to carry this burden alone.

I work with adults experiencing symptoms of acute or complex PTSD, anxiety, panic, OCD, depression, suicidality, emotion dysregulation, and personality disorders.
I think of psychotherapy as a creative partnership between client and therapist, accepting the client, just as they are, while also working with them towards lasting change. I strive to create a warm, safe environment, using culturally relevant, evidence-based approaches that foster collaboration and trust. We'll work to improve self-efficacy, develop healthier relationships with self and others, and practice skills to regulate emotions that have interfered with your quality of life. My orientation is trauma-informed and theoretically integrative, using cognitive-behavioral, biosocial, interpersonal process and attachment theories.

People with trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia were some of the people I helped at work.
I will like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as a licensed mental health therapist. I want to tell you a little about myself and my fieldwork experiences. I worked in this field for several years, along with various training, to assist clients in different areas. In the last several years, I worked in a mental health hospital with adolescents, substance abuse, and crisis intervention in various settings.

I work with clients on issues such as anxiety and OCD, depression, chronic pain, hypermobility, relationship difficulties, substance use, insomnia, health anxiety/health-related concerns, and navigating life transitions.
My goal is to help clients live a full and meaningful life by coping well with stress. I integrate a flexible, person-centered approach with evidence-based practices. Specifically, I collaboratively and non-judgmentally work with clients to identify values and strengths. Together, we explore how to “open up” to difficult thoughts and emotions in order to create a more satisfying life. I use evidence-based therapies and skills, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), as well as mindfulness/relaxation-based and trauma-informed approaches.

Other issues I treat are ADHD, anxiety, depression, and OCD.
Accepting New Clients (Individuals and Couples)-Life can feel really overwhelming at times, especially when you are trying to manage the daily grind, while also being present in your personal and professional relationships. When you have a busy and demanding life your personal relationships often take a back burner and it’s hard to deal with problems effectively in the moment. Sometimes it’s easier to numb out or avoid with unhealthy habits. But, eventually these habits leave you feeling more stressed and disconnected, and problems that once appeared small snowball into larger issues.

Do you find yourself struggling to understand or help with your child or teen's emotions or behaviors? Do you sometimes feel like what you’re doing is not enough? Children and teens are developing at a rapid and different pace than adults are. They have different ways of understanding their own world, expressing and managing emotions, and interacting with others. While at times, guardians may feel stuck, the child or teen may feel the same way, yet struggle to process and understand how they’re feeling. Without proper coping tools, support, and warmth, they may find themselves struggling further. This is where I can help.

Finding the right therapist can be tough, especially if you need someone that is outside of normal working hours and prefer the comfort and privacy of your own home. My practice approach is mindful of such needs, hence why I offer sessions throughout the week that are after hours, early in the morning, and on weekends. I have over 19 years of experience working in a variety of mental health roles and settings, with 5 years total focused on counseling.

Academic burnout: where your motivation is not just on vacation – it's taken an indefinite leave of absence. Maybe you are way past the point of even humor. Are you a student, doctor, lawyer or professor working in academia or the field who is just DONE? I specialize in helping academics, intellectuals, and high-net worth individuals get their spark back. I truly understand how demotivating the systems that you operate in can be, because I have lived them myself, and because I hear stories every day that most people wouldn’t even think about sharing with anybody. Or, maybe something in your personal life is dominating your focus.

There are so many changes in your life - both big and small - that can bring about feelings of anxiety, depression and loss. Navigating these changes can feel so overwhelming at times, sometimes beyond what you might feel capable of holding on your own. I offer a space to express the thoughts and feelings you might not feel comfortable sharing with friends and family. I work from a compassion-focused, strengths-based approach.

I bring to each therapy session years of training, experience, and insights. I've been married for 49 years, with children and grandchildren I dearly love. My focus is on helping you solve your problems, whether they be with your family, spouse, significant other. It's been said that either we go through life or life goes through us. We all need to learn to navigate this life so we find more joy and happiness. I also work with custody and visitation issues, and, have worked with many children over the years. I enjoy individual therapy as well.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
