This approach is especially useful in
sex therapy
because we are able to focus on psychological, relational, and social aspects of
sexuality
as well as utilizing cognitive and behavioral interventions.
As a counselor I compassionately support and challenge those I work with to grow, reflect, and flourish in order to meet their treatment goals. My collective aim is to help clients eliminate distress, build more adaptive coping skills, gain insight into unhealthy patterns, and most importantly facilitate growth and healing. I am committed to creating a safe and trusting environment for all clients wherein they feel seen, affirmed, respected, and free to express themselves authentically.

Clients grow and change through the combination of EMDR psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Imago therapy and
Sex Therapy
.
People come to see me to enhance life. Things are going ok however self care needs improvement. They are having difficulty in relationships with themselves and others, reacting instead of responding. They are willing to examine and work to improve physical, emotional, sexual, social, spiritual and intellectual aspects of life, hoping to improve self and co regulation. Often they are aware of past or current trauma interfering with their capacity to attach, establish new ways/patterns of living life to enhance the future. In practice at my current location since 1990.

The
Sex
Therapist you never knew you needed! When client’s come to my office to seek therapy, the one part of themselves that is most often neglected is
sexuality
! Most people don’t even mention sexual beliefs, curiosities, behaviors, or attitudes until I ask. I believe that
sexuality
is so much a part of who we are, there is no way to fully heal and truly be at peace if our
sexuality
is not explored! As well as specializing in
Sex Therapy
, I’m also a clinical trauma therapist!

I have experience working with clients who have been through trauma, are exploring their
sexuality
and/or gender identity, navigating substance abuse, experiencing grief or loss, and working through relationship challenges.
I believe that my role as a therapist is to create a space where you feel supported, safe, and validated as we navigate challenges together. I will be there beside you as you gain the skills to shape your life the way you envision and work towards your goals. I think that everyone can benefit from therapy, whether it’s short-term to help you through a life transition or longer-term support, I will be here to help and accept you as you are. Many people who are members of the LGBTQ+, kink, or poly communities can feel stigmatized during therapy and I aim to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere for all my clients.

Not Accepting New Patients. Please reach out and see if there is another good fit at the practice. HMT has many wonderful clinicians! I am comfortable working with many different populations with varying levels of issues. Depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, and military specific stressors are a small cross-section of the issues I treat. I am a
sex
-positive, kink informed and trauma informed clinician. I am a laid-back person with a robust, and admittedly sometimes immature, sense of humor who is a big believer in radical acceptance. You can expect these things, and many more during our sessions.

Sex Therapy
Who is sex therapy for?
Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.
Why do people need sex therapy?
Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.
What happens in sex therapy?
People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.
What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?
Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
