By gently making sense of patterns and experiences and providing clear, personalized recommendations, assessment can open the door to insight and self-understanding. The primary goal is to help you feel empowered, hopeful, and better equipped to take meaningful next steps toward growth and well-being.

Too often, we feel we can't connect to our lives as we'd like to - anxiety, low mood, and hurts from the past can block our enjoyment of experiences and people. We can achieve so much, but still feel unsure of ourselves or wish that we could feel more grounded, more joyful, more present in the moment. We definitely benefit from talks with friends, reading, podcasts, and all the ways in which we can learn - but I believe there's no substitute for a great relationship with a therapist. If you haven't tried therapy, or tried and not clicked with the therapist, I hope you'll try or try again!

I am eager to work with adults who have experienced trauma and want therapy to look through how it has impacted them. Trauma can mean a lot to different people though whether that is from sexual assault, military combat, child abuse, cultural/religious abuse or loss of a loved one. What is important is that there was a meaningful shift you struggle to deal with, and I want to help. It also more than post-traumatic stress. You can also experience great sadness, daily stress or trouble in your relationships you do not understand.

Hi, I’m Sia Acquah, a LCSW.
Clients seek my services when they reach a point in their life where they recognize that what they have been doing is no longer working for them. They may not always have the exact words to describe what feels wrong, but they know they want things to change. Often, they come in feeling overwhelmed, weighed down by anxiety, depression, or stress that feels too heavy to carry alone. Others seek my services during a major life transition that has left them feeling unmoored. Still others simply sense an inner restlessness: a desire to know themselves more deeply and live with greater clarity and purpose.

How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.
What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.
How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.
How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
