Hi, I’m Terra—a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. My journey into counseling began long before I earned my degrees from Talladega College and Faulkner University. It started with a deep curiosity about people—their stories, their struggles, and the strength they often don’t realize they have. Over the past 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside adolescents and adults as they faced anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and relationship challenges. Each person brings a unique story, and I’m here to help you uncover the parts that need healing, clarity, or simply someone to listen without judgment.

This is a difficult time in the world. We all need support and a safe space to be heard and to discover new tools and skills to move forward in a more wholistic way. I work in collaboration with clients, honoring that we each have the resources within us to move forward with intention and self compassion.

If you've been taught that your thoughts can't be trusted, your emotions are dangerous, or your body is shameful, you may be carrying the impact of high-control religious systems—whether you recognize it as religious trauma or not. Maybe you're navigating family estrangement, struggling with anxiety over the state of the world, or feeling disconnected from your intuition. These experiences don’t have to define your future. Therapy offers a space to untangle these beliefs, reconnect with yourself, and move toward a more grounded, authentic way of being.

Everyone needs a place for space. A space to be heard. A space to share whatever you want. A space to process feelings, try out new perspectives, laugh, cry, grieve, be angry, talk about betrayal, to fight inner demons, to be brave, to be nervous, to simply BE whoever you are. I am a licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of experience providing space for people to process whatever they are dealing with. People come to me with a wide range of different issues. I am an eclectic therapist but tend to focus on using cognitive behavioral therapy. I love to meet new people, and I would love to work with you.

I help patients find hope in adversity. I explore a patient's need for external validation. I explore old negative motivators used to inspire achievement-based goals. I teach self-care & self-regulating practices. I model healthy attunement, explore conflict avoidant behaviors, & healthy dependency. I challenge vulnerability & meekness being weak while being alone is a strength. I explore guilt, shame inadequacy & fear that causes "analysis paralysis." I analyze unhealthy habits. I teach clients to build trust & reconnect with a traumatic body that no longer trusts.

Another sleepless night spent agonizing over every interaction from the day before. I shouldn’t have spoken up in that meeting. Everyone is probably laughing at me behind my back. Why don’t I keep my big mouth shut? You try to push these thoughts down and ignore them, but it’s no use. You’re terrified no one will like you for who you are, so you pretend to be someone else. And for a time, it worked. But every day, you feel less like yourself, more like an imposter. You distance yourself from loved ones, worried they’ll notice this change in you. You’re feeling disconnected – like you have no control over your life. You need help.

As a clinician, I meet clients where they are and walk alongside them as they become better versions of themselves. I specialize in substance use and general mental health treatment of those ages 13-99 years old. I have a vast array of treating individuals with substance use disorder and general mental health conditions. The most common theoretical approach of my work is cognitive behavior. I work with individuals to explore how their thinking can change feelings and behaviors, thus creating a more favorable outcome.
