If only the image you have perfected projecting were true. Everyone seems to buy it; that you are as calm, confident, and competent as you portray yourself to be. Meanwhile, you walk around feeling like a little girl wearing her mother’s heels. The worst part is always worrying about being “found out” as the fraud that you know yourself to be. It makes it hard to be really emotionally available and honest in your relationships and you always end up feeling so alone. All the success in your professional life just makes you feel like you have that much more to lose when someone really sees what you are desperately trying to hide.

I believe our relationships with others and with ourselves are central to our wellbeing. This includes balancing selfishness and selflessness, caring for others while caring for yourself, and understanding the difference between solitude and loneliness. I help clients invest in themselves with compassion by working through trauma, shame, and guilt, and navigating past, lost, or new relationships. Together, we strengthen connections, build skills in giving and receiving help, and foster cooperation to create a rich, loving life.

Adolescents are figuring out who they are, while navigating the ever-present world of social media in a safe, healthy way.
I utilize a flexible, eclectic approach to treating an array of symptoms, including depression, anxiety, executive functioning limitations, sleep/appetite disturbances, inattention, poor self-esteem, and interpersonal struggles. I apply fun, playful, and active "coaching" techniques in working with children, empowering them to learn and practice tools of their own.

I have a special interest in work with adolescents and couples.
People in distress are often wary of talking to someone who is a stranger. The first visit is generally fraught with anxiety. I am adept at teasing out the issues and helping a person (of any age) feel comfortable and understood. I expect that many clients will come to my office with a certain amount of ambivalence about engaging in psychotherapy. Generally, by the time they leave after the first visit, they are eager to return having felt a sense of relief and hope that they are going to be understood and "heard" in a unique way.

I work with adults, teens, and families, and I have a particular interest in helping people navigate the "in-between" phases of life.
Meaningful change begins with a space where you can slow down, feel heard, and make sense of what you are carrying. I’m here to provide a straightforward, supportive place where you can step back and actually figure out what’s going on. Whether you’re dealing with a major life change, working through past experiences, or just feeling stuck, we’ll focus on what you need to feel more grounded in your daily life.

Currently, I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families through a variety of issues and concerns including trauma, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, family conflict and more.
Navigating distress on your own can be difficult, overwhelming, and even insurmountable. Maybe you feel stuck, misunderstood, or even lost. Seeking guidance to navigate this may seem even more daunting. I open a door for you to explore this in a way that seeks to connect with you, your identity, and unique life experience. My person-centered approach starts with true unconditional positive regard - cultivating a space that is warm, genuine, free of judgement, open to all ideas, and culturally sensitive. I offer a tailored therapeutic relationship that fits your needs while drawing from a number of evidence-based interventions.

I support individuals and couples facing relationship strife, life stage changes, low self-worth, depression and anxiety. They often report feeling directionless, lonely and disconnected from others. In a non-judgmental and empathic space, we work to understand how you came to this place in your life: what contributed to the pain(s) you are experiencing, so we can better understand your mind, needs, wants, desires, wishes and goals.

I have been called a "kid whisperer" throughout my career as children and teens often gravitate towards my fun, engaging, understanding, validating, but clinically sound approach to help them want to delve into underlying issues or concerns.
Therapy is one's personal identified journey of trials, tribulations, highs-and-lows, and uncertainty. Clients who gravitate towards me are those who prefer transparency, engagement, no judgement, and genuine validation and assistance on their road to "who they themselves identify they want to be". Clients who work with me realize that days are difficult, as is change; however, they do not mind the reminders and encouraging sessions that enhance and challenge accountability and resiliency.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
