I have experience with clinical issues including, but not limited to: trauma / PTSD , sexual/physical assault, childhood abuse, depression, anxiety, military life, law enforcement personnel, domestic violence, relationship issues, personality disorders, LGBTQ+, marriage issues, suicidal thoughts, internet pornography/compulsive sexual behaviors, and much more.
Sometimes people wonder if therapy is for them. If you are depressed, anxious, troubled in your relationships, coping with grief, struggling with past or current trauma , feeling hopeless or angry, or just trying to understand yourself better, therapy may be able to assist you. I believe we all have the answers we need inside us, but sometimes it takes working with a neutral observer to find those answers. Together you and I will work toward increased understanding of and ways to cope with whatever problems you would like to discuss. Therapy isn't easy, but it can and often does help.

I also specialize in working with families with adopted children to grow together and heal attachment trauma .
I help kids, teens, and families who have been impacted by chronic or terminal illness, or the loss of a loved one. Throughout my experience working in a medical setting, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of expressing difficult experiences through art. Often, the deep, painful feelings of grief can’t be expressed through words. In art therapy, we don’t need words. I use my training and experience in art therapy and counseling to support you through these difficult life experiences.

I have advanced skills in treating depression, anxiety, trauma , relationship problems, grief & loss, and addictions.
My therapeutic relationship with you will quickly alleviate your emotional discomfort as well as help you grow as a person and develop new psychological abilities. I see your role as one in which you speak as freely as possibly. This is called “free-talk.” Important issues easily rise to the surface when we feel safe enough to talk freely about anything and everything. My job is first to listen and then to talk whenever I have a perspective that I believe will deepen your understanding of yourself. An effective therapeutic process brings about self-understanding that transforms your life and relationships.

As a therapist, I have been awed by the diversity of experiences and strengths of those I have had the privilege to work with. We all go through difficult times in our lives in which we find ourselves stuck and unhappy. There is no shame in reaching out for help. In fact, it is a very courageous thing to do. In my private practice, I work with individuals who may have experienced trauma or feel anxious and depressed but don't know why. I also have extensive experience working in the field of addictions/recovery.

Therapy wise, I specialize in trauma , insomnia, and health psychology, assisting people in dealing with illness and disability to achieve the highest level of life satisfaction.
Are you an intelligent, hardworking, good person? Are you unhappy, discouraged, thoroughly stuck? Not knowing where you are going or how to get there? It's your "emotional brain," who drives your life, often without your awareness, but does not speak the same language of your thoughts. That's why you often can't fix a problem, even when you very well know what it is. It's a communication break down. I will help your emotional brain get unstuck so you can have the life you want. I can help you conquer your fears, lift depression, be happy with yourself.

My primary background is trauma , but I also help parents who are stuck--often because of patterns they learned long ago.
Does it feel like the same thing happens over and over? The same power struggles, the same arguments? You may wonder if things can get better. You may not even know what's wrong or maybe you do know but you can't figure out how to fix it. Maybe you feel like it's your fault. I see a lot of people and a lot of families get stuck in the same cycle of interaction. I absolutely believe that any person and any family can learn ways to function better and that you can become who you want to be. Not sure how this could work? Let's talk about it in a free in-person consultation.

Trauma & trauma reactions impact nearly every aspect of our lives.
Nobody comes out of childhood without trauma (no matter how beautiful their childhood was!). That's because we all can get overwhelmed beyond our capacity to cope, which means any given moment can become traumatic depending on what we think of ourselves and the other experiences we’ve had in our lives. My goal is to help clients recognize and break out of the patterns of their past so they can build the life they want! I work with adolescents and adults (ages 13+) who have trauma -related concerns (ie. relationship issues, negative self-esteem) and are ready to process through their traumas so they can move forward.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
